I had a banner year.

A cheap little magnum knife sharpener
That thing absolutely put a razors edge on every knife I tried it on.
How'd you guys do?

I've used my old Weber kettle grill as a smoker for a long time but using it really means you're tied to it all day tending the fire and you can only use about 2/3 of the 22" grill because of the offset fire and wood. This thing has two 22" racks and the firebox set well underneath.
Now I'm hoping for some nice weather a brisket and a few racks of ribs.

Merry Christmas to you and yours and I hope you enjoy the guitar. Sounds like a great thing to have.

(14,180 posts)Even though delivery was promised yesterday. We should get it by Monday.
That said, it has been a really nice Christmas for us without all the gifting. Just really nice spending time. One of the more peaceful, pleasant days I can recall in a long time.
That's a gift in and of itself, I think.

(4,489 posts)Just as I requested. We're all contributing to a family get-together this summer, instead of doing xmas now.

(15,399 posts)And seeing the SIL actually enjoy a dinner I cooked (Thin-sliced slow-roasted Sauerbraten with chipolini and mushrooms in the gravy, mashed red potatoes and turnips boiled with a clove of garlic, green beans sautéed with pine nuts); he's the type who only eats cheeseburgers with catsup. He typically hates mashed potatoes because he hates "mushie" texture.
He claims to hate mustard, mushrooms, onions, and anything with vinegar in it, but he had seconds - and drowned everything in the gravy that had everything he hates like it was - catsup.

Oh and the headphones I got were not Beats By Dre. I scored these in an Amazon deal:

(2,682 posts)The car is a 2001 Camry with 98,000 miles on it. I'm an old lady and I'm planning for this to be my last car. It's in need of a detailing after a 2,700 mile drive to and from Seattle to Denver last September with my granddaughter and her dog. Runs great -- no leaks, no odd sounds and it still gets pretty good mileage. But those bugs hitting the car at freeway speeds certainly made it look grubby. On Social Security, money for detailing just doesn't fit the budget. It doesn't help that I don't have covered parking so it's out in the weather all the time. The kids, being both thoughtful and practical, gave me the detailing. That and the movie tickets for AMC, Regal and a Seattle International Film Festival membership made for a perfectly lovely Christmas.

(21,046 posts)I'm not a big drinker but my cousin Malcolm came to see us.
We're all Scottish (me,my hubby and my cousin on my mom's side, all have last names starting with Mc) so we had to indulge.
This was something called Craggenmore.
We watched music videos on my large screen TV hooked up to my laptop and cousin and I were singing along loudly to "Every Breath You Take". He's a guitar player and he and I both think that Brian May is the coolest guy on the planet. Well, except that I have a crush on Brian, since I'm female and straight, and he's male and straight, but other than that, he's the idol of both of us.
I also exposed him to the music video of "The Scotsman", which he was not familiar with!!!!!

(60,186 posts)I had the most important thing: the company of my 4 women (2 daughters, wife, & her mom).
A few token incidentals from my mom-in-law, plus, from my daughters, a reservation at the HUSK restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina, for December 27th, which you have to make like 6 months in advance.
Other that that, I have everything I want or need on a material basis, so I have more fun giving presents these days than getting them, and you can't buy health or a partner.
