Exec. Producers decided to develop other "projects" (because what matters in Hollywood is not whether you have a hit, but whether you have a new hit) and the show lost its edge. Didn't help that the star wanted out.

I totally agree with you about its quirkiness, loved all the terrific characters. I used to write about TV, mainly worked with CBS, and Northern Exposure was one of my all time favorites.

Apparently, it had dismal ratings. At around the same time, CBS tried giving a new sitcom to both Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke (separately), not to mention Bullwinkle the Moose. But all of those sank quickly and disappeared, as well. I used to work with CBS and I shared your disappointment.

Six episodes but they're still extremely funny and still hold up pretty well.

...intriguing show from the 90s, about a man--Bruce Greenwood--whose identity is suddenly, and without warning, simply erased by a Mysterious Conspiracy. One season--and it was just cancelled, leaving us in midair with no explanation. I've always been pissed by that...

Man with amnesia and a mysterious past with people trying to kill him every week. Frank Converse played the lead.

For years I wondered what the mystery was - and thanks to the internet it is now solved!

Back when it was good. I was not a fan of the recent Netflix revival. You can't take the ensemble out of an ensemble cast and expect it to work. Single characters does not a show make.

Pretty decent run. A lot of other series should have had such a shelf life.

I was a fan, too, but it was kind of hard toward the end with all the ridiculous plot lines, not to mention the series finale. But for the time, it was pretty good TV.

I have the first season on DVD. There are also some other compilation DVDs of other selected episodes, but I don't think the entire series by season has ever been released, other than Season One.

EDIT: I will give the show credit for bringing AIDS to the TV medium, back when nobody was talking about it, especially on series TV. They had a storyline early on about a politician (I think) being diagnosed, and then the whole story arc later with Mark Harmon's character contracting -- and later dying (offscreen) -- from it.

"My So Called Life" that should have lasted an entire season, and should have been given a second.

But it gave the world Clare Danes, for which I am eternally thankful.

"Studio," I think, just came too soon after the end of "The West Wing." Sorkin should have waited awhile. I have the series on DVD, and whenever I watch it I see a lot of promise. You have to hang in there with it, which I understand is hard for a lot of TV viewers to do.

I loved the two seasons this was on. The cliffhanger ending and no pickup the 3rd season really pissed me off.

David Rasche as Inspector Sledge Hammer,[1] a preposterous caricature of the standard "cop on the edge" character. Al Jean and Mike Reiss, best known for their work on The Simpsons and The Critic, wrote for the show and worked as story editors.

Network may have had another six episodes in it. The other two are real oldies. Lou Grant aired for five seasons but could have gone more. The Paper Chase lasted only one.
