It's 2015 and as everyone is well aware this is where Michael J. Fox flew to in the future where there were Flying Cars and the Chicago Cubs in the World Series (I think they won it - never saw the whole movie). As of January 1st 2015 neither of these things have technically happened.
So which, my gentle dear fans of the DU, do you think will actually

(56,828 posts)There is a flying car out there (came out a few months back) as well.
It's like saying the Cubs have been to the playoffs - they still haven't won the World Series yet.

(38,506 posts)I'm not even a fan of theirs, but I feel bad for them.

(16,178 posts)check out Steve Goodman and a "dying Cub Fans last request".
It should bring a smile to your face, but not a pennant to Chicago though.

(50,562 posts)They want A flying car, which belongs to them. They don't want you to have one.
I don't think I want one...if one of the local NDMFs runs into me in a land car, there is a possibility of injury. If the same person runs into me in a flying car, there is a near-certainty of death.

(80,708 posts)I seriously doubt the FAA is ever going to just let 200 million people take off and zip around the sky will-nilly.
Odds are that the flying car, if it ever comes about, will do most of the flying itself. The algorithms and software to prevent land cars from crashing into each other- when computer driven- already exist.
I am reasonably certain that if affordable "flying cars" come along, they will be part of a system that is reasonably safe. Probably way safer than cars on the freeway driven by people.

(38,325 posts)My sister once lived alongside a busy highway, the highway up on a steep hill above her house.
One night she heard a tremendous crash and jumped out of bed to find a wrecked car and horribly injured people in her front yard.
Her story gives me nightmares and I wasn't even there.
Now imagine that same sort of thing happening anywhere and everywhere with the cars and bodies falling at greater speeds from even greater heights...
No, no, no!
I've encountered plenty of idiot drivers on the road, I don't want those same idiot drivers in the sky.
I'll go with the Cubs winning.

(80,708 posts)Trust me on this.
Edited to add, i would love to SEE the cubs win the world series. But as an ex-Chicagoan I am a realist on such matters.
I'd also love to see flying cars. Fuck it, I'd like to take a flying car to an antigravity parking lot in Wrigleyville to see the cubs win the world series, then afterwards I could watch a titanium exoskeleton robot band cover Grateful Dead tunes in one of the nearby holo-bars, where the air would be thick with the smoke of space weed.
Oh, I'm sure someone here can find all sorts of profound sociopolitical reasons to complain about the idea of world champeen cubs or the flying cars or the antigravity or the space weed or terminator jam band. But Not me! Fuck 'em.
