The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI torpedoed a LARGE Papa John's pizza order.
Long story short...I'm on the board of an organization.
We will order a dozen pizzas for a function.
Someone said "How about Papa John's?"
I said "Domino's is closer. We'll get them faster and hotter. I think they give a discount to non-profits."
So we will order from Domino's.
Disclaimer: I have no idea if Domino's is closer or if they give a discount.
But it won't be the Obama hating Papa John.

(11,833 posts)Next time please consider a locally owned, non-chain pizza. Domino's is owned by a right wing fundamentalist.
If you can't avoid chain pizza, try Little Caesers. The Ilich family who founded it in Michigan are liberal (though I can't speak on their corporate practices).
I like that you're considering this stuff. Figuring out where to buy stuff is a great way of voting with your money. For example, always choose Costco (pays employees well) over Wal-Mart (pays them poorly).

Spoiled by New Haven pizza (and some very good places that are not in New Haven).

(12,132 posts)been meaning to try them - the concept intrigues me. I've heard they are pretty good...
Think I'll go visit this weekend and stop by on the way. Never hurts to bring Grandpa a pizza.

(53,339 posts)I tried that long ago, before the merger, and I wasn't happy with it then. But my experience is obsolete, like that of many who crap on Domino's based on experience before they improved their ingredients a few years ago and added garlic to the crust.
Nothing wrong with trying it. It always pays to personally check out their (pto) main ingredients.

(12,132 posts)I only just heard of them within the last year. But apparently this place has been there for a long time. And it's in the same little clump of stores that contains a regular mom-n-pop Italian restaurant that has pizza. Both have been there for a while so I figure if it wasn't any good the other place would have run it out of business. Ooooh, and they have instructions for cooking their pizza in a grill...I wanna try that..
I figure if I'll eat a grocery store brand frozen pizza then this ought to be better lol

(3,065 posts)They build it right in front of you, wrap it in plastic and send you on your way. Put the oven on 500 and watch it cook. Hot as a pistol, gooey and melted, crispy crust. Good stuff. Had one around the corner from me in Vegas, but none around here in SoFla. Bummer.

(12,132 posts)And I drive right by the one to get to my grandpa's.
Here's to hoping they open one up for you down there!

(18,470 posts)...to get pizza from a LOCAL place. Not Pizza Hut, Domino's, and certainly not Papa Greaseba...excuse me, I meant Papa John's. Leaving Papa John's politics aside for a moment his pizzas are greasy cardboard wheels that do a number on my stomach every time I eat them.
When I'm down there I've made my dining preferences pretty clear - if we're going out to eat or even ordering delivery I want some local non chain place.

(6,719 posts)And drive around the neighborhood. You might find a Mom and Pop which would love your business and arrive even hotter, smile. But you will need to give them notice so they have enough of their secret ingredients. We just did that with a large student event. Were planning on Costco until the students said 'hey' we got a great neighborhood place.
