I am not usually one to complain about the cold. My favorite season is the fall and if I bitch about a season it's usually summer. The humidity here is terrible, I sweat like crazy and get swarmed by mosquitoes.
But this is ridiculous. I have my heat on 70, a flannel tunic over a mock turtleneck, LLBean flannel slipper boots, Alpaca socks, and heavy weight jeans and I am still freezing and the worst of the cold is yet to come. It's going to be below 0 without the wind chill.
For the first time I stood outside yesterday with the shovel in my hands and thought I don't know how much more I can take this, maybe I should just ask my sister if we should consider moving to a warmer climate, and I loathe hot weather.
I do have Raynauds syndrome in my finger and toes, and my shoulders are always cold but then again maybe it's because I am 53 and just can't handle the cold like I used too.

(10,952 posts)I live in Canandaigua, NY, between Rochester and Syracuse. Those two major cities plus Buffalo compete for the Golden Snowball award, given to the one that gets the most snow. It's one award everyone roots to loose. We are closer to Rochester, basically share their weather, and usually it doesn't win, so that's something. Buffalo and Syracuse basically take turns with the trophy.
Knock on wood the major snows have been missing us so far again this year, but the cold has not. Plus the meteorologists keep saying our luck is bound to run out at some point with the snow missing us too.

(5,158 posts)it's colder than a well-digger's ass here.
It wouldn't be so bad, if not for the wind.
Liberalynn
(7,549 posts)That and the ice are the two things I really dislike about winter. Snow is usually not a problem for me.

(22,702 posts)14, windy, and bone-chilling dry?
Liberalynn
(7,549 posts)Because there is 100 percent chance of snow today and tomorrow. The forecast calls for 10 to 12 inches. There is going wind too and tomorrow's temp is supposed to be -5 before factoring in the wind chill.

(20,453 posts)Now she complains 7 months of the year about the heat, which she and I already were familiar with in earlier times when we both lived in FL.
It's cold in PA, an if you do all these things with little relief, then see if you can start exercising in the home more, then take a hot shower or bath afterwards. Eat things that might stimulate your blood vessels, if you can.
It's a bitch in the winter, but that might make the difference. Then, you have all the nice seasons to love to look forward to.

(7,549 posts)have since moved back. Her daughter moved there and loves it and wants her Mom to move there to but my cousin doesn't want too. Like your sister I think the heat would get to me too. Those are good suggestions about the food, exercise and bath.
A friend of my sister's also suggested getting socks and gloves like the hunters and skiers wear from a sporting goods store .

(156 posts)Not that far from you. I miss old California. The Bay area doesn't know what cold means, but unfortunately now it's overrun with snotty rich very young IT types and McMansions.

(14,881 posts)I had to take my gloves and hat off I got so overheated while cleaning the barn and clearing the snow from the hay shed, even with the blistering NW wind.
Just checked weather.com. 3 hours since I went outside, and it's up to 16 degrees! No wonder I felt so hot
Inside, I've taken to wearing double sweats, including hoodie with hood up, inside while I'm doing things, at least until I feel warm. If I'm resting, it's wrapped up in an electric throw or under the electric blanket.
It looks like the 12 below predicted for MOnday night is off, and the snow is back on again. 6 below for Monday now, not including wind chill of course...

(7,549 posts)when temperatures in the teens feel like a heat wave. One of the local meteorologists said she'd never thought she'd be so excited to be reporting that the temperature was going up to one degree above freezing. That lasted less than four hours.
I went earlier today and got some more straw for the feral cats who've made my grandpa's old barn their home. I check on them twice a day and make sure they have food and some water.

(14,881 posts)We're getting well below zero tonight. Then another snowstorm tomorrow. The 4th in just over a week. This is really getting old...

(16,199 posts)The snow changed to sleet for a few hours, but still dropped about 8 inches on us. Nasty crap to cleanup. This is on top of the 2 feet we got last week in the blizzard.
