I haven't gotten recent jury duty in that forum (and I rarely respond to posts there) so I haven't had to refuse. I would still probably go ahead and do my best to be fair to all involved, but it is not an enjoyable outing.

There have been times when I thought the alerted post was just one part of a much larger problem. Those are tough. I'll often see other posts far more offensive.

And, alerted posts by DUers I really like and admire. I'm always afraid I'll be biased. But, I've learned to ignore the name and just vote on the post itsself.

As far as entire groups, I have no problem. But, I guess if you're biased against that group it would be a good idea.

I was busy and I didn't have time to figure it out. It was complex, not a clear cut violation and also seemed to be a grudge alert. Usually with a grudge alert, I am strict in just following the rules, being as objective as possible but if in doubt, I lean toward the poster. For this case, I didn't have the time to do that. Most of the time, I find jury duty terribly interesting. I would like a forum where all alerted posts and their jury decisions were listed.

When I saw the volume of the stupidity, I opted out.

I have served on at least a dozen juries and enjoyed the rest of them.

I have the jury system work and not work on alerts that I have sent, and I don't alert over trivial things.

There is some sort of dispute going on in the Feminist Group that I refuse to stick my nose into and there have been some alerted posts in other places that seem to be continuations of old feuds that I want no part of.

I've been on more than 40 juries so I don't feel bad about bailing out on some.

It's one of the few areas where I really feel that cultural differences between Britain and America make it hard for me to understand what's going on (lots of topics are pretty universal these days, but this isn't); so I don't think I'm a good juror for that forum.

what the poster was trying to say, and once or twice when I didn't have time to clearly explain my vote. I don't avoid any forums; if it's one I'm unfamiliar with I look around a bit and apply what I think are the baseline standards for civil DUscourse.

I actually think Gun Control & RKBA would be an easy one for an outsider - it's pretty safe to assume that if it looks like a direct personal attack it actually is - but perhaps I'm biased because I know the cast in there. If any, it's Sports that I'd have trouble with: I suspect that some of them really dislike each other and some are just playing, but untangling who's which is near-impossible...

oh yeah that is for the people who don't have hidden posts ....

its all good

on edit: wouldn't a jury of MY peers require a panel of jurors whom themselves have hidden posts? the pool is getting shallower daily.

2nd edit: haha, just called for jury duty...first one in over 2 days though....been wondering what that says about the system
