weed does wonders for pain, especially pain associated with bones.

I'm so sorry you're suffering.

You probably need to take a loading dose of an anti inflammatory to reduce swelling. i would suggest ice, but assume you have a cast, so not sure if that would be effective.

Hope you feel better.

I had a bad fall 4 months ago and I dislocated and broke my shoulder in a couple places. First time I've ever had any serious bone fractures and I can't say I enjoyed it any. Anyhoo, in the days immediately following the accident, I was told to take not only the Oxy (which I hated, btw) but also Advil.

Be sure you check with a pharmacist before you do this, but IF you got a form of Oxy that isn't already mixed with Acetaminophen (Tylenol) you can also add a couple Tylenol to that mix. That added over the counter stuff helped me as much as anything, and I never would have thought of it if somebody at the ER hadn't mentioned it.

The really intense pain does get better but it is a bitch while it's going on. Hang in there!

I've come to a realization with this broken shoulder that pain is something that is really important to the ones living with it and not such a big deal to the rest of the world. You might get sympathy but everybody else walks away and resumes life while you sit there still hurting. Hell yes you need to get whatever support you can whenever you can get it! The true angels are the ones that can offer ways to make it hurt less in any way at all.

I really want to stress to you about being careful with Acetaminophen/Tylenol. That shit works well for some stuff, but it is seriously toxic to your liver. A lot of the pain stuff like Norco and the others is actually Oxy mixed with Acetaminophen. If you add a couple extra strength Tylenols to that dose you are already getting in your script painkillers you can start killing off your liver. You have enough problems with a broken bone--please DON'T add to it with a med mistake!

Hang in, and don't be afraid to "whine" if you need to!

I don't even take that stuff.

But nothing works for me anyway.

Aspirin and Ibuprofen are my standbys.

Usually I just grit my teeth and hang in there,

Got x-rays. It's broken.

Supposed to see specialist tomorrow. No insurance. Might just have to go back to hospital.

I got no advice on drugs, but here - have a day-old heart. It's the best I can do until Tuesday, when the paczkis are served.

I slipped on ice about 35 years ago after I moved here to Georgia from South Florida and wasn't aware that you have to be very careful when walking on ice. I cracked a bone in my hip and was on crutches for 2 months.

Fortunately, it happened outside of a company where I had a temporary job. They left a sprinkler running overnight in freezing temperatures. So Worker's Compensation paid the medical bills. Then I sued the company and collected $30,000 for pain and suffering.

the pain killers made me sick, but keeping my elbow propped perpendicular to my body helped with the pain. i slept sitting up for nearly a week just so i could do that. keep icing it off and on.

I've had a lot of broken bones.

I recommend vodka or whiskey.

Pain killers only made me ill, so I could never take them.

19. Cold packs are good to reduce the pain

Instead of using ice that melts and drips and makes a mess, you can make your own cold packs. The quick easy way is if you have frozen peas in the freezer. I like black eyed peas since they don't get mushy when they thaw out, corn also works pretty good. Mark the package and re-freeze - but don't use those packages for cooking after they've thawed and re-frozen a few times.

For a home made cold pack that stays cold longer and is malleable, mix rubbing alcohol and water 50/50 - I add a few drops of food coloring to remind me what that bag is in the freezer. Pour the mix into a ZipLock bag, put that bag into another ZipLock with the closure the opposite way around. Freeze. These cold packs stay chilly a very long time and can be shaped gently around painful areas. You'll get a warning when the ZipLock bags start to leak - you will smell the rubbing alcohol. Don't fill the bags completely full and get as much air out as possible - you want a thin layer of the mixture distributed across the entire bag. A full bag will not shape around your injured area.

I've used the frozen vegetables as am emergency measure - when I got kicked at a horse show we stopped and bought a bag to put on the lump on my thigh for the two hour drive home - it helped a lot. And after the arthroplasty on my left thumb the home made cold packs kept the pain manageable without a lot of drugs.

I've had a variety of broken bones. I have no good advice for pain control. The only answer I have is pain killer drugs. But it will still hurt. Sucks.

I had a shattered ankle. Worst pain in the world. After I got out of the hospital I had powerful painkillers. But I did not like them because of the nausea. I found that a glass or two of red wine greatly helped the pain and helped me sleep. Be very careful. I did not take the recommended dosage of the pain killers. I would take half drink some wine and sleep without pain.

Be very careful about addictions. Because I became addicted to the pain medicine. It was synthetic morphine. I withdrew myself by using advil and red wine and in place of the pain meds but I still would get shivers and the cold sweat. It lasted about a week.
