But, to hell with the 2015 confederate flag, back in the early 70's, I don't think that flag carried as much baggage.
So I'm giving old Ronnie a break, and yes, he was a god of southern rock, along with Dwayne.

I know I loved Sweet Home Alabama and Free Bird. I think they were on the same album.

I had the Allman Brothers with Ramblin' Man....but I know I had others.

Wow, I reckon old age is a'creepin' in here lol, just drawing a blank.

I loved the Marshall Tucker Band too. "Can't You See" was and is a favorite.

"Now Watergate does not bother me" was the first issue--I thought Nixon's abuses should've bothered everybody! Then the verse about Neil Young, criticizing "Southern Man," which was itself a critique of the civil-rights abuses of the South, just made my liberal blood boil. So when that one comes on the radio, I tune it elsewhere.

The southern rock of CCR and John Fogerty come straight from El Cerrito California. John was born in Berkeley California (not on a bayou).

Putah Creek really was green with slime in the summer until Lake Berryessa was built, and the cold water released from the bottom changed the whole dynamics of the creek, but John claims the name came from a pop-syrup label.

Green River Saloon, named after the song and overlooking the creek, was my drinking hole for a couple of years.

I actually like the song, mind you. Awesome guitar solo. But if I were to imagine it in some sort of tangible form, it would have to be the scent of whiskey squeezed into musical form.
