Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsPoll: What is cuter? Human or animal babies?
Obviously nothing can be more adorable or loveable than your own kids... but thinking of the cutest young'ns of the human and non-human variety. Who's cuter?
And if it's non-human, why do you think that is?

(50,566 posts)I thought they were absolutely adorable (and I was never a big "baby" person before they were born). However, the cutest human baby in the world is no match for the ugliest kitten in the world, in my opinion. Same goes for bunnies, otters, goats, bears, elephants, etc.
I always think it's interesting that many of us find the babies of other species much cuter than the babies of our own species. It seems like it should be hard-wired into us to think that our own species absolutely has the most adorable offspring. Not so, though. And, let's face it, a lot of our newborn bald primate young are just not that cute ... and dare I say ... ugly.

(21,925 posts)When they get just a bit older they do start looking cute, even adorable. But I'm sorry to say that for the first few months they look awful to me.

(121,052 posts)Maybe it's the fur. Or those big round eyes. Nothing is cuter than kittens and puppies. Nothing.

(4,475 posts)A lot of human babies are kind of ugly. Kittens, though...omg. Little ears and great big eyes and great big paws! I totally swoon over kittens.
I just want to scoop up every single one of them and kiss their little fuzzy heads.

(4,056 posts)Okay, so I never had kids. And I was one butt-ugly brat myself. But most babies aren't born 23 inches long and weighing less than 6 lbs like I was in 1954. (I got better, really!)
My point is: human babies are adDORable, especially btwn 6-9 months. And so are puppies, kitties, and various other fuzzy mammal types. (reptile babies, not so much with the cuddles.) The only problem I see with humans is we remain dependent little parasites for too long--long past the cuteness and well into the pimply-faced sullen years. After that, we're s'posed to stike out on our own, but more than likely we'll be living in Mom's basement till we're 35. Tiger babies and others have been vast hunters for years before humans get their stuff together.
Supposedly, it's to develop our Big Brains. Personally, I don't see a lot of evidence supporting that claim.
But it doesn't negate the cuteness of our babies!!

(16,515 posts)I know cause I had one. He had serious eyes that stared at you and chicken skin that he hadn't quite filled out. It took a few weeks to reach any sort of adorable stage.
Now my rescue pups? Cutest. Things. Ever!

(56,840 posts)just that animal babies like kittens, puppies, etc are just super super cute.
I think because we see so many human babies, we're also probably more critical of human babies as well - we can see potential faults in them, whereas we might not in kitties. Plus, we're also sometimes biased if we don't like one (or both) of the parents - if Donald Trump or Rand Paul fathers another child, will we say it's adorable, or will we be biased by a dislike for the father?

(4,056 posts)There are some pretty Fugly human babies--I should know because I was one of 'em! Also, I had NO maternal instincts most of my life when I should've been popping out babies of my own. I've just lately come to adore them when I could no longer have them.
Probably for the best, all things considered. My virtual unborn are thanking me right now for not birthin' no babies!!!
