I have a cat in my lap that won't go 2 inches away from me it's so cold. I bought a jacket off of Ebay it has been so cold. I'm southern and not familiar with such things, but this looks nice.
Opinions?

(39,961 posts)I won't need it but three months out of the year, but I figured it was a steal at that price for an all weather jacket that lasts.

(39,961 posts)I can't do $150 for a jacket that I might not use too often, but it looked like an okay deal for me.

(39,961 posts)when it doesn't get that cold here, but I saw it thought it would be nice. I have a windbreaker from Columbia so I figured it would fit the same and be nice.

(11,065 posts)I've had it for a little over a decade, and I LOVE it. It's so warm that I'll get overheated and actually sweat in it while everything from the waist downward (which isn't covered by the coat) and my whole head is frozen solid despite the the scarf, hat, earmuffs and longjohns under my jeans. It feels so weird to have overheated and sweating parts of yourself while other parts are frozen. Mine doesn't have a hood though, but the collar sips up all the way so my neck is covered, and I can tuck my head down into the collar right up to my nose with no problem.
Even in sub-zero temps in the winter I never need to wear gloves with it and just tuck my hands up in the sleeves, and they stay toasty warm.
I so love a great bargain! I haunt thrift shops, and the second I saw that coat I dove on it. Every year when I get it out when the weather turns cold I congratulate myself on finding such a great coat and for peanuts. I think you'll be thrilled to bits with your bargain coat, too.

(22,756 posts)I spent hours yesterday looking for a down coat (since I burned a hole in mine from leaning over the snowblower to adjust blower )
down is good... put it in the dryer with a clean sneaker to fluff up the down, if needed

(11,357 posts)The zippers are usually the first thing to fail on a winter coat. If those are in good shape, it's worth it; if not ...

(11,065 posts)The zipper on mine went several years ago, and I just ripped it out and sewed in a good metal zipper I got for a few bucks at the fabric store.
Zippers seem to hate me. They either break, get stuck or fall down without my noticing but only when I'm in a situation where the fly at half mast is particularly embarrassing. And they always seem to want to get stuck at only those times when I need to pee so bad my back teeth must be floating.

(11,357 posts)A lot of garments are made with zippers that are either not well suited to the garment, or just very poor quality. Even well known manufacturers seem to think this is an area they can cut costs.
Some coats are made in a way you can replace the zipper without too much trouble - others aren't.
