When the Sprint ad came out with the narwhals, I totally lost it -

I was surprised my husband didn't get it until I realized I'd never shown him the narwhal song or the posts on DU about it. So I hunted up the original narwhal song for him to listen to. He declined the 10 hour version

Now he has as much fun listening to the Sprint ad as I do.

That'd be like playing Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World" for hours and hours. True story - a friend was at a local bar when someone put $10 into the jukebox and selected "Joy to the World" for the entire $10. My friend who was not noted for this tolerance and who HATED Three Dog Night managed to hold out for about five renditions. He then asked the bartender to stop the jukebox. The bartender refused and so did the guy who had paid for the song.

After another five rounds of "Joy" my friend couldn't take it anymore, so he calmly walked over, moved the jukebox out far enough to reach the plug and unplugged it. A legendary bar fight began shortly after.

It's over forty years later and to this day if that song comes on the radio or any other device in his hearing, my friend will turn bright red and leave the vicinity as fast as possible.

were you at the bar during the joy to the world bar fight?

if so, how did you like hearing that song over & over

i remember when it was getting a lot of airplay & was driving to indiana with my mom, her sister, & my cousin. that damn song was ALL OVER the radio. (we only had a.m. radio in the car--it was what? 1971?)

I don't have a problem with Joy To the World - but I can understand how it could wear out quickly. The bar fight was early 70s if I recall correctly.
