(20,453 posts)In fact, I'm responding to your links (ass backwards) to see how that happened!
Your cat names are great. The naming of my departed cat, Scoobie was done by my step son, who used to keep her before Scoobie joined the Mickey and Mallory gang (which, at the time, included elder cat, Jessie).
I've gone from 4 to the last of the Mohicans - the ever lovable boy, Mr. Mickey who is a little over 18, has kidney disease, but looks like he's in great shape for that milestone, according to his favorite vet.
I must get a jpg or get to the point of making a gif out of a video so that Mr. Mickey will live on in my posts. I plan on him living on as long as he damned well wants to!

This time I fed him on the porch right by the door and left the door open but, he chose not to come back in *this Time*
There will be other times, I hope ... yes, I am sure there will be another time. Spring is here and the weather is warming up and I can leave toe door open for longer periods of time.
Eventually, he *will* let me walk behind him to shut the door.
it is all just a matter of time (patience. Tuesday Afternoon. patience)

(26,035 posts)In the Basque region between France and Spain, black cats are considered good luck, and the luckiest of them all is a "Matagot" -- a stray black cat that turns up on your doorstep and invites himself in.
My ex and I had a longhair black cat show up that way in September of 1978. He was very sick, and we got him to the vet just in time to save him. He wound up becoming a well-loved member of our household until he passed away at the (estimated) age of 18, many years later. And, yes, we did name him Matagot (or "Matty" or "Mat-Cat" for short).

(51,308 posts)The Naming Of Cats by T. S. Eliot
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

(56,912 posts)an absolute fecking Genius, I say !!

(51,308 posts)Always loved that poem. I think the broadway musical cats was based on his work.
Not a fan of musicals so I may be wrong.
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)Cats is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, and produced by Cameron Mackintosh. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as "the Jellicle choice" and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats introduced the song standard "Memory".
Directed by Trevor Nunn and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, Cats first opened in the West End in 1981 and then with the same creative team on Broadway in 1982. It won numerous awards, including Best Musical at both the Laurence Olivier Awards and the Tony Awards. The London production ran for twenty-one years and the Broadway production ran for eighteen years, both setting new records. Actresses Elaine Paige and Betty Buckley became particularly associated with the musical. One actress, Marlene Danielle, performed in the Broadway production for its entire run (from 1982 until 2000).
As of 2014, Cats is the third longest-running show in Broadway history, and was the longest running Broadway show in history from 19872006, surpassed by The Phantom of the Opera. Cats is the fourth longest-running West End musical. It has been performed around the world many times and has been translated into more than 20 languages. In 1998, Cats was turned into a made-for-television film.

(32,829 posts)I was visiting a friend in a another area of town, and a white& grey cat came up to the porch and leapt into my lap. Shane said she had been around for a few weeks, and he had helped her with a semi hidden box for her 3 new born kittens. I told her if she wanted to, she could come home with me after the kittens were weaned, but, she would never go outside again. She slept on my lap for almost an hour, then left. A few weeks later, Shane called and asked me over again, The grey& white cat reappeared, sat on my lap again for a bit, then came back with an all grey kitten, putting him on the porch with us. Mojo & Majik came home with me that night in a borrowed cat carrier.( for the record this was my only successful pickup ever)
