Actor or actress, musician, hell...I know some folks whose first love was the local "Weather Lady."
For me, it was Julie Newmar as Catwoman.
Your turn!

As in "Male Appeal"
As in "Appealing to Men."
That goes without saying, of course, but that sly British wit is sometimes so sly that it goes unnotiiced.

I am a sucker for beautiful vocals and Julie didn't look so bad either.

(18,837 posts)The third major guitar hero out of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, following Clapton and Peter Green. Peter short-circuited due to mental illness, and is "back" in the same way that Brian Wilson is "back," but Mick Taylor?
Even Jagger & Richards acknowledge their albums with him as a peak.
If you go to Wikipedia, his reasons for leaving the Stones are vague, whether he's leading the narrative or Jagger. There is a reference to the obligatory "addiction problems" but certainly not of the magnitude that explains how he had it all and walked away.

(33,688 posts)that was ever in the Stones. A beautiful and incredibly expressive lead player. Mick T could make you swoon, musically.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...he mentions several Stones songs that "would not exist" without his contribution. Supposedly, Jagger's refusal to give him songwriting credits was one factor that led to his departure.
"Sway" was one of the songs he named. There is no other song in the Rolling Stones' catalog like it, and I have ALWAYS considered it a Mich Taylor song, whether he stepped up and took credit for it or not. This is simply not the kind of song Keith Richards could pull off, by himself, on his best day. It's not his style at all.
Anyone who's spent even a brief time listening to The Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" or The Glying Burrito Brothers or Gram Parson's solo albums can hear all of the places where Mick & Keith "borrowed" his influence. Same for Ry Cooder. And it's also the same for Mick Taylor. His name may not appear on the album sleeve credits for certain songs but it's pretty clear where he left his mark.

(4,945 posts)man to an arrogant egomaniac who became increasingly difficult to work with. He had to be removed fro the studio on more than one occasion.
I assume cocaine had something to do with that.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)Musically, he was a fit for the Stones, but more importantly, he was "one of the boys."
The Who tried the same thing when Keith Moon died, because Kenney Jones supposedly came from the same stomping grounds as their youth. Only problem was that Moon was THE star of the band (as Townsend later admitted), the sound was so completely rooted in his drumming, that Jones never really fit in at all. Plus, Daltrey hated his guts.
But Ron Wood was always "just Woody," a guy who could get along with Keith without stealing his spotlight.
Musically, they'll never touch the songs they recorded with Taylor. In terms of band chemistry, Mick was never really a "Stone." I understand he didn't really enjoy wearing that sailor suit during the "Only Rock & Roll" video shoot at all. Especially the bubbles. Didn't care for them at all.
Tom Ripley
(4,945 posts)I agree with you; while the Rolling Stones would never again reach the Taylor era heights, Ronnie Wood was a better working fit for the band (although it really contributed to their descent into self parody) Wood has to be the luckiest fuckup in the world. Sweet, but an idiot.

(10,558 posts)I met her and her old-fart boyfriend* when they came to Berlin Germany, 1970 I think. They appeared on AFRTS (Armed Forces Radio and Television Service) where I interned as a 17 year old for a high school program. She was a bit older than me but I was fully entranced.
*(that old-fart boyfriend was some guy named Hugh Hefner...accdg to Miss Benton's wiki page when Hefner asked the 19 year old Barbi out on a date she told him that she had never dated anyone over 24 years old, his response: "Neither have I". )
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...she was Hefner's "Chicago girlfriend" (his description).
I guess the concept of Hefner, at that time, being in a "monogamous" relationship was ludicrous, but in my world view, so was messing around with Karen Christy when you had Barbie Benton waiting for you on the West Coast. She also had a kind of creepy Manson Family vibe around her.
And for the record, her main claim to fame (other than what I just shared) was that she was featured with Hefner in the "candid shots" that Larry Flynt leaked in Hustler. Trust me...Hugh Hefner having sex is something no one needs to see. It really was the money. That's pretty much the ONLY reason he got what he got. The "inside stories" of "life in the mansion" don't paint a pretty picture.
