It does take care of the pain, but it weirds the fuck out of me. Sounds go doofy, eyes play tricks. Long periods of "I'm tryin' to think but nothing's happenin'". I had no choice last night, or this morning for that matter. You can't drive on the shit. Limpbaughs has the stronger version and he does just fine calling upstanding young members of our society "sluts" and "prostitutes", and even if she DID post a video, he couldn't get his Mr. Dinky to respond even WITH Viagra.
I'm thinking I need a nap. Good night Irene.

(28,791 posts)I was forced to use an air mattress for a few weeks 5 years ago, but after those 2 weeks I tried to sleep on a new bed and it hurt too bad. I went back to the air mattress, and most of my pain was gone. Then I switched to a futon (traditional style, on the floor) and now I can't remember the last time it flared up. Sometimes my knees make it a little difficult to get up from the floor, but that's a different issue

(29,414 posts)And the one air-mattress I have, my cat poked holes in it. It there's a chance for him to dig his claws into something for a stretch, then he's there
I'm in my third week right now, and it's not as bad as the first day (I went to my chiropractor that day and the following week.) I know I need to replace my mattress and springs, when I can afford it. For now, I sleep with the same old bed, and one of those long body pillows. Only I overfilled mine, so it's nice and cushiony. That helps considerably because I can get the sore leg up over it and at an angle that is pain free, or enough so to be able to sleep

I'm sorry you're having to go through that kind of pain. I am reminded of this stupid nerve every time I cough, or worse, sneeze! It is amazing to me how much our muscles tense up when we sneeze to prevent our limbs from just flailing all about with each outburst. I have to hold my left leg down with my other leg or it jerks all over, and causes even more pain.
I hope whatever you're using allows you to function with less or no pain

(34,189 posts)AND gives me a splitting headache.
And my knees STILL hurt all the way through that. I only take it when I just can't take the pain anymore and want to either pass out or be so zonked I don't care.

(25,392 posts)I had it after hip surgeries and I tolerated it well.

(34,189 posts)I'll take it when I have to but I hate doing so. In addition to the headache it lowers my IQ by about half for 24-36 hours. Basically I'm not safe to anything more than dress myself and pour a bowl of cold cereal.
I've posted some really stupid things here while on Vicodin...
dmallind
(10,437 posts)Percocet and Vicodin I've tried with barely noticeable dimunition of pain and no side effects at all. Dilautid turned off the pain absolutely like a light switch, in not much more time than a light switch, and left me perfectly cogent and functional.
I don't really have an addictive personality. I'm a frequent drinker who frequently goes quite a while between beers but still has a half full bottle of good scotch that's two years old (about 60 really, but been open for two), but if that stuff were available on the open market I can't deny I'd be tempted to use it frequently. No idea of the side effects over time, but I'm guessing they should be avoided so it's a good job.
What works for some leaves others untouched. I've heard people say Vicodin at half my dosage knocks them out, but does bugger all for me.

(47,953 posts)Oxy seems to work ok on me, but what really works for me is Demerol. Haven't tried Dilautid. I could find myself in serious trouble addiction wise if I had an unlimited supply of demerol, however. Oxy, not so much.

(1,828 posts)snorted and orally. While I wouldnt recommend anyone snort anything, the euphoria of 2-3 pills is nice. I do it rarely though.
One day I will figure out how to get high from oxygen =(

(19,288 posts)It takes care of the pain first and there isn't enough left over for any recreational experience. If you take that kind of stuff with no pain I think it goes to your head. It gives some folks insomnia and it works more like an upper than a downer for them.
Sorry you've been hurting.

(33,688 posts)and the doc gave me Valium as a muscle relaxer to go with it. But I was one hurtin'
turtle. I was stuck on the couch for 22 hours before calling the ambulance and they had to give me morphine to get me off the couch and onto the little cart that rolled me down to the gurney.
I took my meds after coming home from the hospital and it was Happy, happy, joy joy. Zonked to the gills for five or six days. I think someone could have hit me with a frying pan and I wouldn't have given a happy monkey fuck.

(47,675 posts)Hell, a half mg of the stuff is usually enough to knock me out! I don't like the "stoned over" feeling from some of the other bennies.
NewJeffCT
(56,848 posts)It made me constipated, which is a problem I don't think I've had since I was a child.
I ate a ton of peaches, drank a lot of prune juice and it didn't help me. I finally had to buy a laxative over the counter to loosen things up enough...
I don't recall any other effects, though. Maybe a bit of drowsiness?

(47,675 posts)I must have been allergic to Fentanyl. The patch area got all swollen and rashed over and I pretty much puked the entire time I had one on. That didn't last three full days before I ripped it off. Oxy just isn't a prescription you want to take before getting in a car. At least it reduces the pain quite a bit.

(6,793 posts)I am prescribed four 15mg oxycodone tablets per day for associated headaches from inter-cranial hypertension (my body makes too much spinal fluid and puts pressure on my brain)....I rarely have to resort to that many, I weigh about 130 lbs and on a bad day, those 4 barely take the edge off and make light bearable.
