Hard Times, Come Again No More

It's a Stephen Foster song. Married to an Old Folkie, I've known it for a long time. It's a beautiful expression of the need for empathy for the poor and exploited. Back when Youtube was new and I was exploring, I found a few covers, including a couple of really fine Bluegrass versions -- Emmy Lou and the Bluegrass Cardinals, and I am a major fan of both.

A couple of weeks ago, it came back to mind, and I searched and streamed. Last Wednesday, again. Observations:

Since 2008, there have been a lot of new covers.

On Wednesday, Bernie having declared, some of the "recommended for you" suggestions were Bernie Sanders interview videos.

Mavis Staples' version is great.

Is it too slow and sad to be the anthem of a new movement?
