There are tons of holiday's in the US and around the world. Which is your favorite?
Some examples are Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Fourth of July, Easter, Memorial Day, Diwali, Passover, New Year's Eve, Earth Day, Martin Luther King Day, Star Wars Day, Towel Day, St. Patricks Day, Father's Day, etc.
Or any other holiday in the world. It can be official or unofficial, religious or not and celebrated in just one country or anywhere in the world.

(28,941 posts)It's a day anyone can celebrate. Earth Day is good, too.

(3,275 posts)I the last few years, my family goes out to dinner at the same fancy restaurant every year. We have a wonderful meal. There is no preparing and cleaning up. The only bad thing is there are no leftovers. Thanksgivings at home are fun too.

(28,394 posts)I used to really like Easter because it was less work than Christmas and Thanksgiving.
What is Towel Day?
IrishEyes
(3,275 posts)Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25 May as a tribute to the author Douglas Adams by his fans. On this day, fans carry a towel with them, as described in Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author. The commemoration was first held two weeks after Adams' death on 11 May 2001.

(23,340 posts)Veterans get a free lunch at Applebees (and other places), maybe a free car wash.
And there's no shopping involved.
Yes, it's sort of a re-purposed "Armistice Day" or "Remembrance Day", but I like it anyway.
IrishEyes
(3,275 posts)It is also my birthday. I always got the day off from school on my birthday where I lived. It is good to have a day to honor the veterans.

(39,343 posts)When else can you get a free dozen of Krispy Kreme doughnuts simply by gathering the family and dressing up like pirates?
IrishEyes
(3,275 posts)Any holiday that includes doughnuts is good. I participated in a pirates day parade once. Everyone was dressed as pirates and there was a contest for the best dressed and best talking pirate. It was fun.

(3,275 posts)It gave us the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. One year I should take a road trip to Punxsutawney PA to celebrate.

(3,275 posts)I like to look at the department store window displays in the city. It is also fun to watch Christmas movies. Most people have their own specific favorite Christmas movies that they watch every year. Decorating the Christmas tree is fun. Plus the Christmas season is an excuse to eat a lot.

(3,275 posts)You can eat cookout on a sunny summer day and then watch fireworks. You can celebrate with friends, family or by yourself. Plus it is the only paid day off from work for me since May and until September.

(3,275 posts)I love an excuse to wear a costume and eat lots of candy. I enjoy watching horror movies and mysteries around halloween. It always fun to piss off the far right.

It's during my favorite time of year ( fall / late fall )
Given the right company, it's the pleasant way to have nice dinner, conversation with friends/family reunions.

(3,275 posts)The leaves change colors. Kids go back to school. There is Halloween and Thanksgiving. There are lots of pumpkin flavored foods and drinks. The weather is cooled off from summer but not cold yet.

(1,893 posts)It is the only completely fun holiday. All the other big ones have drudgery and stress attached to them. Halloween is the perfect day.
I'm actually quite obsessed with Halloween. It's never really not Halloween at my house. I have an open coffin in my living room right now. I have one room where it's totally Halloween, 365 days a year.
I mark the start of Halloween season as July 5th. This is when I start to escalate my preparations (and it helps me get through the miserable hot summer, which I hate). By September I start bringing the really morbid shit out of mothballs.
The whole month of October is glorious for me. I go on a all horror diet - I read and watch horror only. Then November comes and I get the blues because I have to wait whole big long year before I get to do it again. I usually leave my stuff up through Xmas and put Santa hats on all my skeletons and ghouls. Christmas lends itself quite naturally to the macabre, actually (which is why it's my second favorite holiday).
So yeah, Halloween. Only 170 days to go...

(1,365 posts)And also the Battle of Bennington Day because it is on my birthday, August 16th. It was the only Revolutionary War battle fought in Vermont and is a state holiday there. I wouldn't mind having my birthday off from work, but I live in Texas.
