4k displays are finally dropping into mainstream consumer prices. The biggest limiter is going to be content, I think. Why bother buying one when Ultra HD content is so hard to find? The technology to support it was in place years ago, and the prices will continue to get lower, so I don't think those will be a problem. I think bandwidth may be another issue for content support.

Edit: I'd put mainstream adoption, should it happen at all, around 3-5 years from now. My question is whether or not we'll skip 4k and go straight to 8k in 5-15 years.
