Do you occasionally dream of an ex..and in the dream, you think, oh, no, I'm back with him/her...

And just want to get them out of your life. Again.

I still have that dream, infrequently, and it's been 20 something years since we split.

Sometimes in the dream it's horrible, as it actually was, and once in a while it's nice, as it was once in a long while.

I wake up. And it still hurts like hell.

My ex, like anyone else, has thousands of flaws and shortcomings. But I never gave a shit about any of them. I was crazy about her right up to the day I found out.

Imagine a David Lynch version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Fortunately we never got so far as wedding because I jumped out of her moving car and that was the last we ever spoke.

It is one of those experiences my mind sometimes plays with in my sleep, like "what if I'd stayed in high school?" that usually cause me to wake up in terror, disoriented, soaked in sweat, thus further reinforcing my belief that running away from trouble is often the best option in life. Most especially the sorts of trouble I often get myself into.

years after quitting smoking, I still have those dreams where I am berating myself for smoking again - I think it's the nicodemon's way of letting me know he's always there, waiting

Sometimes it's just a plot point in the dream, like I have to change my plans because I only have 3 cigarettes left. Stupid things like that.

The little bastard knows that Dreamland is the only place he can play anymore in MY head, so he makes the best of it

at a wedding or some other big event.

It was indoors. Everything was white. White carpeted floors, white tablecloths,
white china, etc.

I was puffing away, and realized that there was nowhere to put my ash, which
was growing absurdly long.

I ended up making a mess and leaving through a back door.

Wierd.

I have been smoke free for 12 years.

It took a total of 6 weeks. The pain was blinding.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Except Dick Cheney.

& I've been with my spouse for 28 years! Where does that ancient history come from?

I also dream sometimes that we live in our old house again - we moved out of that house 12 years ago.

I was haunted by a few lingering ghosts in my very early 20s, but I met the love of my life at 22 and never looked back--and that was 41 years ago. Time may not heal all wounds, but it certainly healed all of the ones I had suffered up to then.

And I've been happily married for more than 30 years in my present relationship. In my dreams everything is perfect and she loves me as much as I love her but she doesn't have any of the baggage she did in real life. I wake up feeling shattered after these dreams.

Hell, I don't know if I should have shared this... First loves, eh?

Wed May 20, 2015, 09:58 AM

because my husband left me or I can't get in contact with him (sometimes it is a business trip, or sometimes we just break up). I end up with my ex - who was a nice enough guy just not my 'soulmate'. And in my dream I am always like "eh, I guess you'll (my ex) do." But in my dream I am always longing for my husband and keep hoping to get back with him.

I hate that dream. Its been over 20 yrs since I was with my ex, he was my first serious relationship. Every time I wake up from the dream I wake up my husband and make him hold me super tight.
