46-Bedroom Texas Mansion Hits the Market

This thing looks like a fucking warehouse. Bigger doesn't mean better,

Have you ever dreamed of owning a large mansion? Then look no further.

Here's a home with 46 bedrooms, 26 bathrooms and a nine car garage. And if you’re willing to shell out $3.5 million, then this large home, located at 2354 County Road 59 in Manvel, Texas, could be for you.

The 60,175-square-foot brick home, also equipped with an elevator, sits on a 15-acre lot with a swimming pool and indoor spa.

-snip-

The catch, for anyone interested in buying the home, is the home needs a lot of work.

And looks to be already haunted. I wasn't too impressed with what workmanship I could see from the pictures, either. I'd be afraid that I'd be getting the same quality of home building as a slapped up Hotel 6 built for a brand new interstate section opening.

One article says surgical rehab. But same difference.

This seems more like media sensationalism or a realtor putting lipstick on a pig. Or both.

Either way, that's not a house. You can even see the hospital type banisters in the hallways.

It's somewhere in the Tampa area. I have talked with one guy who spent the night there. He said each of the ten bedrooms had its own private elevator to the ground floor (!!!!) He's now in legal hot water for financial irregularities. Before it all blew up in his face, he used to host Republican Party events there. OK, who's surprised?

By the way--before I get jumped for this: I said I know the guy. We are NOT friendly!

In the news now are plans are for a $500 million mansion in L.A.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-05-26/california-dreaming-record-500-million-tag-on-l-a-home

I thought the $100m+ home of the father of one of the kids on Melrose Place which he never actually lived in but she inherited(?) was ridiculous. I sort of understand the idea of parking your money in real estate but how many future buyers are there who want to park their money and increase the price. At some point it must become a white elephant. Don't these people watch Downton Abbey?

He had it built over 20 years ago for $25+ million, and ten bedrooms, each with its own individual elevator to the ground floor, for a family of four--seems a little over the top.

It is perverse. Especially with the elevators that often take days to repair in buildings meant to service hundreds of people.

It would be one thing if he had a buyer lined up but this plan sounds too risky. Plus the size of that thing. Wonder how the neighbors feel?

Then you have Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich who's buying a whole Manhattan block to build his mansion.

Manvel's a really nice area if you enjoy a country setting with not-too-horrible access to Houston and the gulf beaches. Despite a lot of new pricey housing developments being built nearby, it still has a bit of a rustic ambiance to its north and east.

LOL I just ranted on Facebook about a family of six that was in the market for a tiny house on an HGTV show I saw the other day.
Look, this house is too big and extravagant for me, but a tiny house, especially for a family of six, is ridiculous, imo.

How old were the kids?

Saw one episode of Tiny House Nation where a family with two teenagers, one boy and one girl, moved into a tiny house. They had to divide the second loft so the kids could have some privacy.

Still I think there was a method to their madness. They probably didn't want the kids staying around once they reached adulthood.
