The pups should be interesting

(35,015 posts)Don't forget the extra 'e' after the s. And when these little buggers are born, I want to see pics!
Have you bred dogs before?
A little story...when I was a kid (about 12), my parents decided to breed Daisy, our AKC wired-haired fox terrier. She was hardly a little flower though; her favorite hobby was hunting groundhogs. She'd dig down in their holes after them and I'd have to pull her out by her tail, teeth gnashing all the while. I loved that dog and her spunk!
So mom and dad found a suitable stud and drove Daisy out to meet him. Well, there was no meeting, the two were unceremoniously thrown together in a kennel, and there they stayed for 3 days.
When we returned on Day 3, the owners of the stud weren't very happy. They told us that they were fairly sure the two pups had done the deed, but apparently Daisy was not a willing partner. She beat up the stud pretty badly and drew blood. They told us to never bring her back.
That was the only time Daisy had puppies, my parents decided the whole thing was too much of an ordeal for her, and us.

(6,001 posts)This one is definately a work of love for both them and us.
They are our babies and they will have one and ONLY one litter before they are both fixed.
They are going to make some hellacious pups....they are going to be born with a *i'm the shit* attitude

(35,015 posts)I love little dogs with attitude - and those breeds are smart too. You have a lot to look forward to!

(6,001 posts)it depends on how many she has......first litter on a dog this size averages four pups.
Will have to wait and see

backwoodsbob
(6,001 posts)is what I call your reply.
We have consulted our vet MULTIPLE times and he says she is perfectly fine having pups with a dog his size.
He only weighs seven pounds.
She is fine.
I find your empathy strange after I have posted MANY times over the years about helping with your local no kill shelters and you have never once responded
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)you want another dog? go to one of those shelters you support and give a home to someone who really needs it instead of making more.
backwoodsbob
(6,001 posts)but that doesn't give such a great story does it?
And her vet gave the go ahead.....he says she is perfectly capable of having pups....guess that makes your point worthless doesn't it?
We have consulted the vet and he says she is perfectly capable of having pups with a male his size....he is 7 pounds now and she is 5 pounds.
Thanks for your faux concern

(4,459 posts)There, I did you a favor....as a responsible breeder you would need to disclose that to Lynnsin and others who are interested in adopting one of these pups. I say "adopt", because now that I took care your ethical disclosure, you surely can't consider selling them.

backwoodsbob
(6,001 posts)When she has pups they will go to whomever I consider good caretakers free of charge....I will take care of any and all shots and will drive the pups to whomever i consider a good caretaker on my own dime.
.these will be the only pups they have and they WILL NOT be for sale......they will go FOR FREE...to caretakers I think will be good for them.

(4,459 posts)Cruel to mom and pups, and the families who adopt them. Even if give them away, are you going to disclose mom's epilepsy history? It seems to me all you're doing is populating those shelters you brag so much about supporting. Every website about canine epilepsy discourages breeding a dog with a history, whether it's own or within its lineage.
You don't know shit about responsible breeding.
Kali
(55,003 posts)if you even have one. stupid, cruel and totally irresponsible to breed that small dog with its medical history.
hopefully this is all just trolling bullshit and no dog is gong to have to go through what you are trying to pull here.

(23,272 posts)Any responsible pet owner would be endorsing adopting, not creating more freak mutt blends that contribute to the current shelter crisis.

(6,001 posts)Good luck spreading that.
Charlie is the only registered dog I have ever owned....in my 50 years I have owned or housed for shelters over 500 dogs....the vast majority of them were sheltered dogs until we got them homes.
I have made a home for more dogs than anyone on this site....good luck telling people I dont care or whatever you are trying to say.
I have paid to have spayed and neutered more animals than you have ever owned or seen...good luck telling people I don't care
Texasgal
(17,038 posts)you are doing a mighty fine job of that on your own.

(4,459 posts)How do you feel about a mixed breeding when one of the dogs has a condition that could factor in with surviving pregnancy/birth and could be passed down to her offspring? And mind you, the OP is breeding with looks in mind. In fact the OP dismisses calling the puppies what they'll be, mutts. We're called upon to come up with some cute designer name.
BTW, while I'm a lifelong fan of a certain breed, some the best dogs my family has had were mutts, and there was no need to come up with a cute name for what breeds they were.
