(16,423 posts)I have recently read that they originally wanted to make the show about a spaceship visiting planets. But then they figured that they would need a new set every time a new planet was introduced. So they switched to space-station.

(35,296 posts)The sci-fi club I was in used gather at a neighbor's apt. when it was still airing. Now he's with the Spitzer Space Telescope team.
Just finished watching the entire series, start to finish, on DVD--including all the movies. Had to get to the kid interested in it.
So, what do you want?
BTW, this is probably my first time in the Lounge. Clicked the link by accident saw this post, had to respond. B5 doesn't show up much in conversation these days.

It's too bad one of those altruistic billionaires out there wasn't also a science fiction fan. Maybe then we could resurrect the SciFi channel, though likely having to call it something else. Like the SpecSciFi / SSF (Speculative Science Fiction) channel

(10,558 posts)I thought the plots were well written and acted out. I'm still a bit miffed at discovering that one of the long term cast members was a right wing nut job, I think his name on the show was Garibaldi, he played the head of security.
I also loved the new version of the Battlestar Gallactica series but I did have a major complaint in how they kept panning the cameras too much. It tended to get bothersome almost giving me a seasick feeling but other than that I liked that series as much as I ever loved B-5.
Sort of relatedly, I was the other day thinking that it would be nice if someone did a full length movie based on the book 'The City And The Stars' by Arthur C. Clark.

(12,723 posts)Consider it a landmark achievement in television writing and even production. They did a lot with very little money.
I often post the ending scene from Z'ha'dum as an example of one of my favorite scenes ever.

(26,117 posts)I have the whole series on VHS - a geeky friend taped them all & edited out the commercials.
I used to read a message board where JMS posted regularly - it was awesome to learn his take on things.
And Walter Koenig was great as Bester.
