Ronda Rousey defeats Bethe Correia via knockout in 34 seconds at UFC 190
Ronda Rousey promised to punish her trash-talking opponent Bethe Correia on the Brazilians home turf on Saturday and, boy, did she ever. It took the 28-year-old just 34 seconds at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro to deliver a knockout punch to rack up another win in her undefeated record and retain the UFC womens bantamweight championship.
I guess she cant really say things about my hands anymore, huh, Rousey said after her win, which she dedicated to WWE legend Rowdy Roddy Piper, who died suddenly on Friday.
Contrary to past fights, when shes been cordial to her opponents, Rousey showed no respect for Correia, either at the beginning of the fight or at the end. The two fighters did not touch gloves before the bell and Rousey certainly didnt congratulate her on her effort.
Rousey may have had good reason. In May, Correia trash-talked Rousey with allusions to Rouseys fathers suicide a taunt Correia apologized for but one that Rousey refused to accept. Correia also taunted the star after defeating two of Rouseys friends in the Octagon, Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler.

I'm not a UFC fan but Rousey's accomplishments are impressive (her last 3 fights have been won in a collective 64 seconds) and the part about Correia making comments about Rousey's father is jaw dropping.

(16,926 posts)1. 34 seconds?
Did she stop for a cigarette before finishing the bout? She normally only takes 12 to 18 seconds to drop her opponents.

(1,681 posts)2. She took the steps to beat Correia with her stand-up game instead of her usual arm-bar submission
game. She really, really, REALLY pissed off RR with the suicide/father trash & she paid for it by getting knocked the fuck out. RR didnt want to just win the fight, she wanted to beat the bullshit right out of her.
Well, mission accomplished. Anyone that thought her stand-up game was weak/suspect has been corrected.

"Hey, let's try to kill each other and people will pay us money."
I guess it's the modern equivalent of the Roman games at the Coliseum.
On Edit: Cue Daenerys Targaryen
