neighbor retaliates with bright paint job

&updated=201508180016&MaxW=800&maxH=800&updated=201508180016&noborder

dispute among neighbors over dog waste in a usually sleepy Glen Ellyn neighborhood apparently prompted the owners of the dogs to respond in a very public -- and colorful -- way: They painted one side of their house in bright shades of yellow, orange and purple.

"It's a slap," neighbor Leigh Van Heule said of the paint job. "It's absolutely a clear message of retaliation."

The saga began earlier this summer when neighbors of the house on the 400 block of Longfellow Avenue began complaining about the number of dogs living there, their aggressiveness and the stench from dog feces in the yard.

It escalated when neighbors complained to police, who on July 24 issued a ticket to 55-year-old Julie A. Dombroski for having four large dogs living in the house -- one more than is allowed by village code. Dombroski had to pay a fine, according to court records.

A day after the ticket was issued, a man in his 20s or 30s painted the siding -- row by row -- in bright hues, neighbors say. A second coat of paint went up a day later, drawing a gathering of stunned neighbors.

The rest of the house remains a stark white, but the painted wall directly faces a well-manicured home where residents have been among those raising concerns about the dogs and smell.

Patricia Amabile, who lives in the house facing the freshly painted wall, says she's at "a loss of what to do."

What is with these people thinking they should retaliate when they get caught breaking the rules?

Just clean up the MFing dog poop and train them so they don't bark.

3. It's a good paint job. Rather pretty. But they should still pick up the poo.

Unless there's an HOA situation here, I'm at a loss as to why someone would think this is the way to be passive-aggressive over a neighborhood dispute.

It's actually rather interesting. I like it.

But if you have large dogs, you should still at least do a morning sweep and pick up all the poo in the yard before you go to work. Similar to a cat-litter box; one really needs to clean a litter box out daily.

Growing up with a St. Bernard and then a Dalmatian, we always had a 24" deep, 18" diameter "poo pit" area in a back corner of the yard with a funky painted hub-cap cover that we would drop 1/2 a cup of quick-lime in on a weekly basis and then backfill with around 6" - 8" of dirt when it finally got close to that level. Never was a problem with nearby plants, lingering soil issues (foreign bacteria) or odor during the summer - and we always had healthy, happy worms in those areas afterwards. While the dogs might bark occasionally, most visitors and neighbors indicated that they were happy that they didn't "experience" the dog's presence when the dogs weren't present, as it were.
And with a set-up like that, it was never an issue to keep the yard clean.

If the neighbor gets riled up about a paint job on a house, he is probably nuts.

5. Back in the '70's we had a neighbor.......

right next door who kept three dogs in cages in the yard. The cages were set on blocks & the dogs just crapped onto the lawn. The stench was horrific. The backyard where these dogs were, was about 12 feet from our kitchen. My Dad talked to the guy & he wouldn't clean up.

After giving the neighbor 2 days to clean it up, the neighbor did nothing. My Dad called the Police, the Officer couldn't believe the stench & told the neighbor to clean it up, and the cop was staying to watch him clean it. The cop stayed for about 45 minutes till it was cleaned up. The neighbor was also told that if the Police had to return for this situation they would arrest him and cite him.

After that the stench would get bad & my Dad would tell the neighbor that he would call the Police. My Dad would then watch as the neighbor cleaned it up

A couple of sad things about this man, 1. he was at the time married to the twin sister of my older brother's best friend. Their father had died when they were about 10, and when my Dad died, this friend stated that he had been like a father to him.
2. Eventually they divorced & about 8 years ago the neighbor got into a situation with the police, where he fired upon them from the rural home he had moved to. He walked out of the house holding up his shotgun shot at the police who returned fire & killed him.

He made his own house look ridiculous. Neighbors should just ignore it. Eventually he will repaint it.

but if the dog poop is cleaned up, that resolves the actual problem. It's not like the colors light up at night or something.
