The Parking Ticket

Last edited Sat Aug 22, 2015, 04:38 PM - Edit history (1)

Working people often ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.

Well, for example, the other day, Jan, my wife, and I went into town and visited a shop.

When we came out, there was a cop writing a parking ticket.

We went up to him and I said:
"Come on, man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?"

He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.

I called him an asshole.

He glared at me and started writing another ticket for worn-out tires.

So Jan called him a shit-head.

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.

Then he started writing more tickets.

This went on for about 20 minutes.

The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home.

We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired..It's important at our age

on his windshield, I'll take it off and throw it away. I like to think of all the headaches I've saved people. I've probably done this a dozen times or so.

won't the person who owns the car eventually get a bench warrant out on them?

All it does is make things worse for the owner of the car that got the parking ticket.

It may end up costing the person a lot more than the cost of the original parking ticket, because he/she may then have to pay a penalty on top of the fine for the parking ticket.

Also, technically, you are breaking the law.

I live in a very small town and there's a stop sign two houses down. The local cop gave me a ticket for not stopping.

I fought it of course.

Come the trial and the cop eventually admitted I did not come to a "full stop". When pressed, he eventually conceded there is either a stop or not a stop and that I did stop.

But i stopped "too close to the sign".

So, was there a stop line to show drivers where to stop before the sign? "No."

Not guilty!

The next day, one and a half house down from my driveway, (remember, this is a very small town) is the town's road crew painting a four foot wide stop line while the chief of police was staring at my house with the surliest look seen outside a tea party rally.

It is the most sarcastic stop line I have ever seen.

I just started reading "To Kill a Mockingbird". Somehow I missed it during high school. I have never seen the movie, either.

There were some threads here about her other book, Go Set a Watchman, with most of the same characters, that came out last month but was written before Mockingbird. Unfortunately, there was a lot of disappointment.

Doesn't take a thing away from your book, though. Enjoy the read!

I had a similar experience after reading Catch22. I found out Heller had written a follow up, Closing Time, years later. I have never in my life wanted to burn a book so much. How could the author of something as brilliant as Catch22 write such a turd?
