Recreational marijuana in Oregon.

So most of you probably know that Marijuana is legal in Oregon and recreational sales opened on October 1st. I had not smoked marijuana since high school maybe 25 years ago and after some thought decided to give it a try since its legal, it was the legality thing that kept me away in the past.

Anyways today I went to the dispensary just down the street from my home and picked up two very low THC strains because I am a beginner, one that is supposed to be an uplifting high that is high in CBD and the other that is a mellow high.

I just smoked a little of the uplifting one and wow, it's really pleasant with me feeling quite nice and not too impaired. This is supposed to be good for pain and I could see that, you feel good throughout your body and it's very nice.

I really don't see what the fuss is about, this should be legal in all 50 states and it definitely should be available to anyone with a medical condition. Anyways feel free to ask me anything.

When I was young it relieved my anxiety. Now that I'm older, it does wonders for my arthritis. I know this because a couple of years ago I took a trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas and, of course, didn't bring any with me. After about 7 days my fingers began to ache and by 10 days I could grip the steering wheel to drive. Back in California the first thing I did when I got home was take a few hits. Within 24 hours (and more bowlfuls) my fingers were back to normal. NOBODY can tell me it's not medicine.

Legality and current company drug policies are the only thing keeping me from smoking. I don't feel I suffered at all from being high during a lot of the 80s. I had great times with good friends and good music and good food.

But I got married and had kids and had other priorities for the last 30 years so it's been a while but I vote every chance I get for legalization here in FL. And the day they open a legal dispensary I'll be in line.

I have a ton of records I never got to hear while high.

ETA~ I'll be 52 in December so I still have a ways to go to before retirement but if we haven't gotten our shit together by then and already have it legalized, I'll be going rogue. I'm not planning to jeopardize the means to my retirement but once I don't have to pee in a cup you can bet stupid prohibition laws will be at the bottom of my shit-to-worry-about list.

In California it's twice that. $60.00 for an 1/8 of the good stuff. I was reduced to buying from the dispensary (which totally doesn't exist because our local County Board of Supervisors banned them) beginning last May when I ran out of my homegrown (which I totally didn't do because it's now illegal to grow outside and THE COUNTY will slap a $1,000 PER PLANT fine) and had to buy from the dispensary for a few months. It was good pot but the expense was OTT.

Talk prior to legalizing recreational use was that the taxes were going to create a gap between legit retailers and street sellers. That seems not to have happened. And people buying from a dispensary know exactly what they're getting: sativa or indica, what strain, THC, CBD, etc...

Along with which ones won't make me devour my kitchen or get stuck on my couch and watch cartoons. It felt very safe as opposed to a dealer that has some random bag that will blow my mind and melt my face.

Very expensive, though. I think I recall a bag of 5 chocolate chip cookies costing along the lines of $60 or so.

I'm not particularly interested in getting high and I don't like smoking either, but I've found that liquid THC (brand name Zoot Drops) added to a glass of water and drunk an hour before bed time makes me wonderfully mellow and helps me sleep better than any sleeping pill I've ever had prescribed. It too is expensive, though: $45 for a tiny bottle that will only last a few days.

Better any day than the self-medicating I used to do with alcohol because that nearly killed me a number of times and caused permanent health damage.

Sat Oct 24, 2015, 06:25 PM
Oct 2015

How much does it cost to get an immature plant, and how long does it take to grow them to a point you can harvest buds, or whatever you are supposed to do with them? Can they continue to grow as you harvest them, and just replace old growth with new, or do you have to harvest the whole plant at once, and start all over again?

And can you grow them from your own harvested seed, or are the plants all "grafted" as I was once told by a supposed plant (and weed) expert.

I probably can't afford mj, and I would be very interested in trying it for medical uses, not recreation. I don't know if my doc would give me a medical prescription...never asked him. He might. I do take a few "controlled" drugs and prescription drugs that I might be able to almost eliminate if mj would work for me.

60. I am not sure on immature plant prices.
Sun Oct 25, 2015, 02:02 AM
Oct 2015

I think seeds are about $10 each but you can get up to an ounce or more from one plant depending on your grow situation indoor or outdoor and obviously new people are not going to get the yield someone with 40 years experience gets. Our newspaper here had a reporter that did two plants one indoor and one out door and she had no experience. I think it took 60-90 days to harvest and she got an ounce on each plant. She basically spent $20 plus the stuff like fertilizer, soil, pots and lights for her indoor grow and came out with 2 ounces of product equivalent to $270. What was interesting was her outdoor plant produced about as much as her indoor the upside to indoor is you can do it year round. But an ounce is a lot, it would probably last me 3-4 months.

When it comes to harvest, you harvest the whole plant when it's ready so you one plant is good for one harvest. But again, if you have a green thumb you can basically take $10 which is equivalent to 1 gram of marijuana and turn it into 1 ounce of it.

And personal could mean recreational or medical. I would hate to lump people together who have real medical issues and use marijuana for it with people who are using it for enjoyment.

Lots of retail sellers in Southern Oregon, though: four in Roseburg, three each in Medford and Ashland, two each in Rogue River, Phoenix and Talent, one in Merlin, and even two in tiny little Shady Cove, about twenty-five miles east towards Crater Lake.
