Daily Holidays - November 5

National Doughnut Day November 5 is one of two National Doughnut Days that are celebrated by doughnut lovers across the nation. The first Friday in June is the other day that doughnuts are the star of the show. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Gunpowder Day Known as Guy Fawkes Night or Fireworks Night, Gunpowder Day focuses on the plot by Guy Fawkes and other conspirators to blow up Britain’s parliament in 1605. Rebelling against the persecution of Catholics by King James I, they planned to kill the monarch during his visit to parliament. But the scheme was foiled and the traitors executed. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/gunpowder-day/

Love Your Red Hair Day Many redheads have felt like outcasts for having red hair. National Love Your Red Hair Day is designed to empower redheads to feel confident, look amazing and rock their beauty. Red hair is more than a color, it’s a lifestyle. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Men Make Dinner Day This day was created for the men who do not know their way around the kitchen and are not familiar with cooking appliances, as well as for the women in their lives who need a break. http://nationaldaycalendar.com/latest-posts/

Any guy who can follow an auto repair manual has no excuse for not being able to do a gourmet recipe pinboy3niner Nov 2015 #3

The most that I could do was unjam the butterfly valve on a carburetor, fill up the brake fluid case, mess with the battery and cables, check the oil and change a tire. I actually did better than most of the shop students on the mechanical skills portion of the ASVAB and also in physics, but once I started wearing contacts there was no way that would end up underneath a car again.

They put me through an 'Organizational Maintenance Officer' course in which I pulled engines on jeeps, deuce-and-a-halfs and tanks, did diagnostics, and made repairs. The course, which trained officers on how to run a motor pool, never stuck with me. I can do basic repairs following an auto manual, but my heart's not in it.

But talk to me about New Orleans Bouillabaisse or Chateaubriand for Two and I'm in!

I don't often eat them, but I have a week-long event coming up so I am expecting to enjoy doughnuts and coffee every morning along with all the other donated treats and meals that will be provided to us throughout the event.

And because my birthday falls during the event, my friends always bring out a bottle of Jameson for a celebratory toast. I participate only because I don't want to hurt their feelings, of course.

Good morning!

My girl dogs don't cook, although they'll gladly eat anything I cook.

... why Guy Fawkes Day became Gunpowder Day colloquially. I have a mad theory it is because societies nowadays are leery about memorializing "terrorists." Even though Fawkes and the boys weren't terrorists.
