(126,244 posts)The most that I could do was unjam the butterfly valve on a carburetor, fill up the brake fluid case, mess with the battery and cables, check the oil and change a tire. I actually did better than most of the shop students on the mechanical skills portion of the ASVAB and also in physics, but once I started wearing contacts there was no way that would end up underneath a car again.

(53,339 posts)They put me through an 'Organizational Maintenance Officer' course in which I pulled engines on jeeps, deuce-and-a-halfs and tanks, did diagnostics, and made repairs. The course, which trained officers on how to run a motor pool, never stuck with me. I can do basic repairs following an auto manual, but my heart's not in it.
But talk to me about New Orleans Bouillabaisse or Chateaubriand for Two and I'm in!

Good morning!

(18,477 posts)... why Guy Fawkes Day became Gunpowder Day colloquially. I have a mad theory it is because societies nowadays are leery about memorializing "terrorists." Even though Fawkes and the boys weren't terrorists.
