My sister finally got to try one, an organic original(what ever that means) flavor and honestly I'd rather have my filtered tap water. Is there some advantage to coconut water?

(19,918 posts)the coconut instead of plasma. Naturally did not have plasma, but it saved a lot of lives.
Coconut water can be used for a variety of medical purposes, one of which is intravenous rehydration. A 2000 report tells of a stroke patient in the Solomon Islands who was too ill to drink or use a nasal tube but was successfully rehydrated with a coconut-water IV when no other fluids were available. Emergency coconut IVs were reportedly used by the British and Japanese during World War II, and they've been clinically tested on humans several times to see how well they'd be tolerated. Answer: overall, pretty well.

(1,937 posts)the first is manufactured from the shredded meat of a mature coconut
the second is the liquid inside a green coconut that later becomes the meat
two completely different things

(6,261 posts)At least two people tried to convince me of its benefits as well recently, but I can't abide the stuff. It tastes like someone ejaculated in a glass of water.
One of those two told me to avoid tapwater as it "causes cancer"

(19,918 posts)Generally I avoided the small ones in the rectangular boxes and got the plastic bottled one as it was sweeter.

(1,937 posts)acts as a rehydration solution/sports drink
ie contains sodium, potassium and so forth (also small amounts of sugar)
how ever they are not 'balanced' as in a 'manufactured' rehydration or sports drink
in wilderness survival books it's often touted as natures 'sports drink'
in large amounts some sources claim it acts as a laxative
and also large amounts of potassium isn't healthy so small amounts are probably good
but replacing all fluid intake with coconut water probably very bad

Other than that, meh.

Insert a straw, or guzzle it.
Be one with coconut water.

(1,232 posts)super as an almost-instant relief for dehydration and very effective on headaches. It's much better than gatorade or those other sport drinks and we can get it with flavors like pineapple and peach. It's not cheap but it's a great alternative to soda and juice.

(9,950 posts)Coconut water (natural) is my buddy's and my favorite after surf snack. The little bit of sugar dampens the craving for calories after a bit of serious activity.
