South Florida. Seems to me everyone there should carry a knife.

For self-defense. Not against other people, mind you.

But in case a Burmese python gets hold of you and tries to give you a squeeze. At least having a knife would give you a chance.

And I know I can outrun a snake.
But A bobcat? Well....
Panther? Hmmm...
Gator? no problem
Wild boar? Yoiks!
I bring a pistol. This is one of the only states where you can become lunch to the local wildlife.
Not too long ago a young man lost an arm to an alligator down here and my nieces friend was bitten by a shark while tubing in the Intercoastal Waterway.
I'm not bringing a knife to a gunfight.

I've never had an alligator in my swimming pool. The ones I've seen are usually in the expected places....nature parks and such.

I've never seen a python. I've never come across a panther (although I'd love to see one of those in the wild. Magnificent but rare creatures.)

My experiences with wildlife here are mostly disappointing. The occasional raccoon, armadillos and possums. One time I did see a coyote in the neighborhood, which was pretty cool. But it caused a big fuss and they hired a trapper and caught and killed the poor thing which was a damn shame.

I'd love to see some sort of exotic animal, and we certainly have them down here, but I personally haven't come across any.
