I need to fix that.

Starting with whatever song mentions Tallahassee (hopefully in a favorable light), I was born there.

On early songs like that one, he sounds positively smooth & silky compared to his later vocal style.

But yeah. listening to more Tom Waits sounds like a good project to me.

It mentions the town Serviceton. It was a station for the train from Adelaide to Melbourne (The Overland). I believe many years ago, passengers had to disembark from the train at Serviceton and transfer to another train because the states South Australia and Victoria had different rail gauges (distance between the rails).

I've always been bemused by the lyrics in Tom Traubert about "Everything's broken and no-one speaks English". Copenhagen? Try getting a Dane to NOT speak English. And nothing was broken last time i was there.

I had the same language problem when i moved to Holland (OK, The Netherlands). As soon as the worked out that I was actually a native English speaker, they'd switch over to English. I'd had conversations in which i spoke Dutch and the Dutch person spoke English.

Fortunately, I also speak Glaswegian...
