A Thanksgiving Memory to Forget... but it never goes away!

A few years ago my Sister and I and our respective families made the trip to Idaho to have Thanksgiving Dinner with my Mom and Dad... something we hadn't done in a decade or more.

The meal was cooked. The table was set. We gathered around the table and said Grace before taking our seats when my Mom speaks up... "Today, before anyone fills their plate we're going to go around the table and everyone is going to say what they're most thankful for. Now, everyone reach out and hold hands..."

Everyone, and I mean every single person was unable to get through the first sentence before getting emotional and breaking out in tears. It was so pitiful it was funny and in the space of about five minutes we as a group went from happy joy to collective tears to hysterical laughter. The kind of laughter that makes you cry.

To this day I can't sit down to a meal with anyone in my family without having someone ask "Shall we say what we're thankful for?" I imagine it will be that way for the rest of my life.

Mine doesn't really compare... but one year Mom forgot the stuffing. Didn't realize it until dinner was being served. We spent the entire meal saying, "Great stuffing, Mom!!"

We said, "Great stuffing, Mom!!" every year after that. And it was. But it was always a fun reminder.
