No Thanksgiving for me.

I had my gall bladder out yesterday. The surgeon said it was the worst he'd seen in awhile. But it means no big dinner for me. We did ours on Sunday instead, which was fun actually, even if it meant trying to cook a big meal in a kitchen with not enough counter space.

People told me this would be a piece of cake, but holy hell, it hurt. Better than they the way they used to do it, I guess. Of course I am admittedly a wimp when it comes to pain, but I needed my boyfriend's help just to get into and out of bed. Today, it's better, though.

Still I think this was the right thing to do. It'll be better in the long run.

I assume they removed yours laparoscopically too? I didn't like the painkiller prescribed so i just toughed it out for several days. That made getting out of bed the worst.

Mine was pretty messed up too - Surgeon needed an extra half inch to get the thing out. They used to have to cut a foot-long incision and it took much longer to heal. I was back at work in less than a week.

There is life after gallbladder surgery though. I haven't missed mine for an instant.

My mom had hers done back in the old days, so I know that was much worse.

Even though, I have a desk job, I think I will take a few days off next week. I don't think I'll be ready Monday, but who knows?

Just having general anesthesia does a number on your body not to mention the healing you need to do. You'll be tired. It will take you longer to heal in the long run if you don't rest enough now. Trust me on this one.

Abdominal surgery is no picnic. (The surgeon told my parents that I was lucky the thing did not burst. I was in pain for several days before I finally let my mother take me to see a doctor.)

Simple things like standing up or changing positions are pure torture.

and a hernia repair at the same time. his life was over on Monday ( ) and he was walking the dog a half mile yesterday.

Had mine out years ago and never noticed any difference in digestive function whatsoever. If you had any attacks you will appreciate that never happening again. if not, trust me they are much worse than any pain from surgery! that is something to be thankful for!
