You probably already know....but they didn't believe Gene Hackman could do comedy, so he had to audition to get this part!

(28,940 posts)I heard Hackman just showed up during casting call and asked to do a read. This right after scoring an Oscar for The French Connection. But yeah, I can understand "Gene Hackman, comedy? Gimme a break." Good comedy: Good acting chops plus perfect timing.
