D'oh.DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - The state DNR is looking for the public's thoughts on a proposed ban on alcohol on all beaches in state parks and recreation areas. If approved, the ban would be in place year-round.
The proposal calls for banning alcohol on sand or fenced in areas of state beaches, swimming areas and in a 200-foot buffer zone. Any rental facilities within the buffer zone would not be included in the ban if the reservation was made through the DNR.
Several incidents at multiple state beaches that involved alcohol led to the proposal.

but not much for beaches along them but people do fish there. And there are always some a**holes that leave their cans and trash behind.

So spending an evening with a date (either two or four legged) drinking at the edge at the old leech infested, manure runoff filled farm pond might soon be illegal?
What will the young ones do for fun?

(18,470 posts)7. Update: they now want public input to reduce alcohol-related incidents at state beaches
Looks like they're changing their tune slightly.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments from the public to determine how to reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents at state park beaches.
In the past several years, we have had a number of concerns voiced to us regarding problems associated with alcohol consumption at multiple state park beaches which threaten the safety of both the public and park personnel, Todd Coffelt, chief of the Iowa State Parks Bureau, said in a press release issued this afternoon.
A press release posted earlier today said DNR officials were considering banning alcohol at all state park beaches. That release was revised at 4:08 p.m. to say DNR officials are seeking informal comment on ways to reduce alcohol-related incidents.

I'm guessing the shit hit the fan after their previous announcement so that's why they changed now.
