Zippy is a pinhead so he's never without a point

You may or may not get it, but every strip has a point. It helps to know and appreciate Americana. That, and understanding a lot of Griffith's series are based on local stories that will leave a whole bunch of people in the dark who don't know the backstory.


SF Bay Area people who fondly remember Doggie Dinners got the point.



Same could be said for anyone who has visited the UC Davis campus



Some have larger appeal and need no explanation. But on a stretch, and the Americana angle, Hearst Castle is at San Simeon, and William Randolph Hearst III at the San Francisco Examiner gave Griffith his shot at main stream publication.
