(1,958 posts)I was a pre-schooler, the youngest child, and we were on vacation and it was raining. The family went to the movies. Of course I had no idea what was going on and fell asleep (I think that was the plan) anyway, around that time the Apollo moon missions were going on. I think it was Apollo 8 in which they orbited the moon, but it took three more missions before they figured out how to land on the moon. Every time Apollo 8 was said by Walter Cronkite, I thought he was saying "Apollo Ape."

(2,328 posts)Never saw Planet of the Apes in theater, just on TV. My step-father was into films and film-making though and as such I was exposed to movies of all sorts as a young one. From Disney classics to the Marx Brothers and WC Fields to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I first Saw Star Wars on a boot-legged VHS tape. First movies I can remember seeing in the theater are ET and Bladerunner.
It is fascinating how mundane things can trigger memories on top of memories.

but it is supposed to be set in new york. there is a scene where they decked out an el station entrance to look like the ny subway, but the calder in the federal plaza is clearly visible, reflected in a window.
