Her name given by the shelter was Tinkerbelle, but she doesn't recognize it so we are trying on a lot of other names. Nothing sticks yet.

Here she's looking at about forty crows and two squirrels and assorted other birds on the lawn. When one flies by the window close to her nose, she ducks!

What do you think her name should be? She's eight years old, neutered in shelter so she has had litters in the past. She's very sweet and talkative.
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)20 years ago when I was getting a speeding ticket on a deserted stretch of the Long Island Expressway.
I tossed her into the car and got a can of cat food at the next 7-11, which she gobbled down. That's probably why she liked car rides, and would sit in the rear window watching the world disappear.
A called her Maxine for some reason I don't remember, and she learned to respond to Max. She was an excellent hunter, and had a curious fetish for corn on the cob. She would even wait for the pot to cool down and fish one out of it to eat.
grasswire
(50,130 posts)If I brought home corn on the cob, he was into the bag and couldn't wait for the silk. He also loved cheesy popcorn. Don't know why.
But then I had another cat who went nuts for glazed donuts.
Max is a good name for a cat. There are childrens' books that have a big cat named Max.

(1,367 posts)We just figured it's because corn and grass are related and they loooove to eat grass (and then puke it up.) We actually had one cat that would sneak outside to eat grass then demand to be allowed back in to yack it back up on the carpet.
niyad
(132,221 posts)carpet whenever they need to yack.
Cadfael
(1,367 posts)That he should just yack it back up outside instead of in the house. Sigh.

(50,130 posts)She has the instinct when she plays with her feather toy. But she won't be going outside. We have eagles here, and they take small animals if they can. I was told by the shelter that she was raised an indoor cat but I am not sure about that.

So there are now two independent votes for Maxine.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(130,436 posts)I think her name might be Lillian.
grasswire
(50,130 posts)She's a very feminine cat, so a girly name seems right. I thought of Leilani because she moves her paws as gracefully as a hula dancer moves her hands. But it was vetoed.

(130,436 posts)Maude?
Vivian?
Norma?
grasswire
(50,130 posts)Maybe I should get a baby book and look at girl names.
If it was a boy cat I would call him Carter after Jimmy.
Danmel
(5,772 posts)Call her Rosie.
femmocrat
(28,394 posts)Jenny or Molly
grasswire
(50,130 posts)....but that would otherwise be a good fit. Molly is cute. I thought about "Chatty" because she is so vocal in an adorable way.

(24,146 posts)i'm terrible at naming pets. when you come up with something, ask her if it's her name. harvey ignored name after name but his ears perked right up when i asked him if that was his name.
how's she settling in?
grasswire
(50,130 posts)....and her only eccentricity is that she will only drink from the bathroom faucet. Oh, and she persists in waking me vigorously at 5 a.m. and I am not a morning person.
Otherwise, fine. She came from a home with four other cats, and so I think that we may get her a companion next month. I wish I had thought to ask if the shelter had any of her siblings. It's very sad to me when cat families are split up.
Paper Roses
(7,630 posts)She looks quite content in her new home. What a beautiful view from the window. So glad she has other friends to watch. The reflection of her face is so cute. How did she like the tree? In my house, if I had a tree near my kitty's window perch, it would be toppled in a second or she would be hidden in the branches. Stories like this make us feel great.
grasswire
(50,130 posts)I wondered how that would go. She hasn't looked twice at it.

(27,569 posts)Since she is very talkative, Chatty Cathy might work. (I don't know if you are old enough to remember those dolls.)
grasswire
(50,130 posts)I did think of Chatty. Or Chit Chat. Still hoping I will stumble on her real name, so I keep saying all kinds of names to her to see if she reacts. She did seem to notice "Patty".....but not sure.

As for names, I am partial to Gracie as mentioned above, but totally understand your reasons for not doing that.
Allie
Isabelle, Bella or Izzie for short
Carly
I also like Charlie for girl animals
My first dog's name was Scout, from To Kill a Mockingbird. Will always be my favorite pet name!

Call her Chatterbox and for sort Chatty. She'll recognize the familiar sharp sound pretty quickly, especially if you combine it with opening a can of cat food.
I would probably call her Chitty-chitty-bang-bang too. I do that with my pets. They all have a variation on their names that includes the sounds in their name.

Patch.
Not Patches.
Patch. (she has a little black soul patch on her chin.)
I asked if she would like a new name,
She started purring loudly and I thought it sounded like "Sophie"
Her name is actually spelled Psoghi, though.
