Bean Day Some people believe that Bean Day has no origin and no purpose, but there are plenty of farmers and bean aficionados who would disagree. The day probably has its roots in celebrations of the early bean harvests in farming communities and now Bean Day is a wonderful excuse for a party. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/bean-day/http://www.famousbirthdays.com/january6.html
Epiphany or Twelfth Night Celebrating the day upon which the three kings arrived at Bethlehem, Three Kings Day is twelve days after Christmas day, and marks the end of the Christmas period. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/three-kings-day/
National Shortbread Day On Shortbread Day, one needs to keep things short and sweet! Shortbread (not to be confused with shortcake) is an absolutely delicious kind of cookie (sweet biscuit). It is usually made with one part sugar, two parts butter, and three parts white flour. Slightly less traditional recipes can also see such ingredients as chocolate chips added to the mixture. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/shortbread-day/
Apple Tree Day could also be called Put a Doctor Out of Business Day because of the fruits health benefits. However, the origin of this day is quite different. Apple Tree Day started as a celebration of an old apple tree almost two centuries old, and has grown to become a celebration of the apple itself. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/apple-tree-day/

(72,300 posts)Oh, and turning off the Christmas lights for the last time each year really really makes me sad.

(38,958 posts)Gave up on the outdoor lighting several years ago after dealing with some reluctant strings of lights. The indoor work is all done by Mrs. Sherman A1 with me providing the toting and lifting.
The bean soup sounds like an excellent idea!!!! Might have to give that some thought. I think the inventor of the crock pot should have been awarded the Nobel Prize!

(72,300 posts)This year I added 900 small red lights to the inside ceiling of the front porch using plastic zip-ties. I always re-box my lights or wrap each strand in clear plastic garbage bags. It makes next winter's decorating job fun instead of a chore.
I musta done sumthin right cause the neighbors keep on telling Mr I_T_W how much they enjoy driving past our home.

(38,958 posts)I do like the house that put up lights and decorations, however after decades and decades of Retail work, my holiday spirit has suffered. I just can't generate much in the way of enthusiasm for putting up anything inside or out. If Mrs. Sherman A1 didn't go through the effort, I would suffice with the Charlie Brown Tree each year.
No wish to be a party pooper, but just the way it is for me.
