this happened to my husband. it can be debilitating.

may i share a bit of his story with you? i don't know why, but i feel moved to and perhaps there is something in it for you.

in addition, and unknown to him, he had a heart valve with a small congenital flaw. when the heart became congested, it was unable to pump the blood sufficiently past the "flaw" - and instead, a blood clot formed and he had a stroke. this is when the chf was accurately diagnosed.

warning to others - 2 weeks prior to the stroke, he was having trouble breathing (he was 41) and he went to the ER - where they misdiagnosed asthma and gave him 2 different inhalers. most inhalers are contraindicated for chf and can make the chf worse. at the time, the ER doc did not check for chf because my husband was "too young and had a previous history of drug abuse" - whatever that has to do with it.

following the stroke, he was given 3 months to live. but, due to his very skilled and caring cardiologist and by sheer will and determination he lived 6 1/2 more years.

chf is not uncommon when we get older - there is much one can do to manage it - and live with it and continue to have a good life.

my best to you trueblue2007.
