Oreo managed what seemed impossible up til now... climb over the 14" high grate and squeeze through the 3" gap between his side of the hutch, into Snickerdoodle's digs.
I went to feed dinner last night and found the two of them canoodling.
I was considering letting them some day, but had decided against it at least for this year if ever. Too much work.
I'm not sure how long he was in there, or if I broke it up before he, er, finished. If he managed to knock her up, I'm praying for a tiny litter. I'll know for sure by Memorial Day.

(14,881 posts)Periwinkle the budgie is in love with Sage the elderly lovebird and I caught him trying to canoodle with her this morning, although she wouldn't have any of it. And Violet the budgie is in breeding condition but Peri's not interested in her even though she follows him around singing to him. So Peri follows Sage, feeding her and rocking his rope toy, and Violet sings to Peri, Dandelion, Jerry the senegal parrot, out the window, and the world in general, but can't seem to hookup with anybody.
So the budgies who I thought I'd like to see replicate are dreaming impossible dreams...

(31,388 posts)Yesterday I saw papa bring her something--water or food--hard to tell between the leaves, but he was attending to her.
I wish the birdies wouldn't nest by the front door.
We have one nest--up under the overhang of the screened porch--that has been used every spring since it was built 5 years ago the first year
this house was here. It's kind of fun to see it being recycled every year.
