(34,131 posts)The style I'd gotten had a strap that went around his middle and the head/neck part had a strap that went around his throat. It was two parts, one on the body and another that covered the neck and head.
Now this horse had always refused to wear a blanket and would get one off in a couple of hours - very frustrating when you are trying to keep his coat short and shiny for showing in winter time. He destroyed several hundred dollars worth of horse blankets and sheets by the time he was three years old.
The trainer thought some of the slick jersey horse "pajamas" would work better and keep him just as clean. Since no one checked on him that first night, we are not sure how long the outfit lasted. The next morning the two straps, both around his middle and his throat, were still there. The rest of the rig had been taken loose from the stitching that attached it to the straps, removed without undoing the velcro and buried in the nastiest part of the stall.
We never spent money on any kind of blanket or covering for that horse again. He went naked and we just got up an hour earlier on show days to clean him up before the first class.
I should have named him Houdini.

(29,414 posts)Some animals just won't accept anything on them, no matter what. I stopped trying to put a collar on my cat, because he would peel it right off and over his head in a couple of minutes. So, he remained an indoor cat the rest of his life
