(6,252 posts)so many great characters
All the characters on that show were great!
My favorite WKRP characters are:
Les Nessman, the News Director
Herbert Ruggles Tarlek Jr. WKRP's Sales Manager
But I also thought Dr. Johnny Fever was great as well.
Nearly every line he uttered was hilarious!

(27,792 posts)I always thought that it was sung by Richard Sanders, who played Les Nessman.
However, it was actually sung by Steve Carlisle, who did sound a lot like Richard Sanders.

(1,752 posts)this show for the first time recently & even after 18 episodes binge-watched in a week and 1/2 - it still cracked me up - brilliantly done. Show was dang good too.
But if youre talking just SONG, I'll have to think about that and get back to you.

(49,983 posts)Composer Christopher Tyng was heavily inspired by Pierre Henry's "Psyché Rock" when writing the theme to the popular animated cartoon show Futurama. The theme is so reminiscent of the Henry's song, it is considered a variation of the original. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Henry

(6,261 posts)I hesitate a little because I suspect few people here have heard of this show. It stars pre-Morse John Thaw (35 years old and looking closer to 55 years old like his ex-wife says) and Dennis Waterman. Very seventies. Very British.
I love the closing variation of the same theme too:

(27,792 posts)as well as the "Sesame Street" theme song
But, IMO, the best TV Intro song ever was for the short-lived sitcom
"Get a Life" (1990-1992) which starred Chris Elliott, (who played a 30-year-old paper boy living in his parents' garage), with Bob Elliott, his real-life Dad, playing his Dad on the show.
The song was "Stand" by R.E.M.
I also loved the theme song for "77 Sunset Strip"

Any time you meet a friend.
Good Times.
Any time you're out from under.
Not getting hassled, not getting hustled.
Keepin' your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.
Temporary lay offs.
Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs.
Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving.
Good Times.
Hangin' and a-jivin'.
Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em.

(57,412 posts)Where I am, it's on channel 54, WNUV, two episodes back-to-back.
Don Kirshner had the best songwriters working for that show - Carole King, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, the incomparable Neil Diamond, and of course Mike Nesmith himself.
I'll just leave these here:
This has to be one of the top ten pop tunes from the 60s:

(3,275 posts)Also, I don't know if it officially counts but Carry on My Wayward Son for the TV show Supernatural. It has been used as the intro for many of the episodes.
This is the lyrics to the firefly theme song. Not all the song was used in the tv intro.
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.
Leave the men where they lay
They'll never see another day
Lost my soul, lost my dream
You can't take the sky from me.
I feel the black reaching out
I hear its song without a doubt
I still hear and I still see
That you can't take the sky from me.
Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There's no place I can be
Since I've found Serenity
And you can't take the sky from me.
