The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just learned how to make a symbol that I have long wanted to make...
Here it is: ?
How to make it? First hold down the ALT key, and then hold down the 3 on your number pad. When you let go, the heart will appear!
Someone on another website showed me.
?
And it also works in the thread title!
So Far From Heaven

(149,611 posts)How did you make the others?

(6,261 posts)Just from the old ASCII table:
1 ☺
2 ☻
3 ?
4 should be diamond, but doesn't work
5 ?
6 ?
16 ►
17 should be left arrow, but brings up google.
18 ↕
Of course, anything before 32 (space) are control characters (backspace, tab, bell etc) and may or may not show up correctly.
Goodness, you brought me back to the old MS-DOS days and codepages!

"I ? My Wife".
I had a suspicion that one wouldn't go over that well around here so I left it off.

(31,386 posts)Trying and £ for Euro and Pounds!
It only works for me to copy and paste, though, holding the alt and typing the code doesn't work.
I have bookmarked the site, though, so at least if I want letters with accents or some of the symbols I can always
copy and paste.

(149,611 posts)I found that I had to hold the keys (both of them) down firmly for a couple of seconds. Maybe try that? And then let go.

(28,394 posts)That was just kind of a general question to anyone who might know! But thank you for the information. I never knew where to find any of these shortcuts without doing a copy and paste. Now I am on a learning mission!

(15,676 posts)by using the Windows Character Map. It contains copy and paste-enabled alphabets and special characters that will freak you out.
In Windows 7 and other Windows editions, follow these steps to summon Character Map and insert a special character into your work: Click the Start menu, type charmap in the Search box, and press Enter. Character Map lets you insert special symbols into your documents or e-mail.
IE: ᴥ Ω ▓ ? ☼ ♀ ♂ ♫ etc.
There are special characters for each font you have installed, and not all will copy and paste correctly. It's fun to play with, tho. This program has been in place since Windows 3.x.
