Captain America: Civil War is in theaters now, and fans can expect nine more Marvel movies to release between now and 2019. In an interview with Deadline, Marvel president Kevin Feige was asked which characters might be next to get their own solo movie after the cinematic universe's third phase.
"Where we go beyond [2019] are ongoing discussions that we'll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then," Feige said. "Of the characters that you've just mentioned [Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow, and Hawkeye] I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow."
Feige added that Marvel thinks "she's an amazing character" and that "Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of her is amazing."
"She's a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise," he said.

(58,776 posts)I don't know if she's going to want to wait around until after 2019 to lead in her own Marvel movie.
In the meantime, enjoy a fan-made Black Widow title sequence.

(1,003 posts)it might be a retrospective movie, where at an older age, she reflects on her life and the events that led her to the moment she currently finds herself in.

(56,828 posts)I was never a huge fan of her in the comics (didn't dislike her, either), but Johansson does bring something special to the character.
But, to be honest, I was never a huge Capt America fan, either. I liked him & respected him, but I didn't buy Cap comics over Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and several others. But, he's been good on screen as well.

(1,837 posts)Bridget Regan has been a remarkable '40s-era Black Widow in the Agent Carter series.
she was definitely good, too. I think there was speculation she might end up being Natasha Romanoff's mother or grandmother, or something like that.
Unfortunately, it looks like Agent Carter is being canceled.

(1,681 posts)She's well positioned to be a potential "Bourne/Bond" franchise if Disney is so inclined. A super spy/assassin that is so talented/fearless that she can hang alongside gods, super-soldiers & space invaders without asking to "tap-out".
She's a world class bad-ass.
