I always try to put old photographs in perspective with the history that was happening or about to happen around the same time.

They couldn't have possibly imagined what would come, or even what the rest of the 20th Century would bring. They probably thought life would always be the same as it was then.

...if I found myself there in 1900. I used to the the human GPS in Jerusalem's medina.
