Pour about an eight-to-one ratio of the cold brew in a cup and fill the rest with hot water. The flavor is amazing even with the crappy store-brand coffee I use.

Cold brew coffee refers to coffee that is brewed at room temperature or colder for extended periods. After filtering it can then be heated and served warm if you like. Coffee beans contain hundreds of chemicals, some of which are only water soluble at higher temperatures. So cold brewing results in a very different flavor profile. I've tried it and didn't like it as to me the coffee tasted very flat, but my favorite brewing method is espresso which is about as far away from cold brewing as you can get.

Some people do not like the acidity of coffee, so cold brewing may provide a much better flavor profile for them.

Brewed cold, served hot, should be just fine.

I'll have to try making cold-brew one of these days. It just seems to take too much planning.

I know of a few coffee-houses that do that specifically to have a low-acid coffee offering.

Easiest way is to pour it into a pyrex glass container than is safe for a hot-plate or similar.

Put the water and coffee in, leave it in the fridge overnight, and press it in the morning. It's amazing, especially in this heat.

Like Tobin, I prefer my coffee hot but I dig the occasional iced coffee.

I only do it part-time now at B&N for the book-discount and to get out of the house...I work from home in the "real" job.

I used to do it F/T for a coffeehouse/bar in DC with a full kitchen. I loved that job...competed in the USBC when I was there and was a semi-finalist. It's where I learned to bake before I went to c school. (I wasn't cut out to be a chef...I love food, not service.)

I love making raw sugar Cuban shots. Haven't quite managed one with stevia that doesn't taste bad.

for now, I just have a french press and stir it 50 times. Don't know if the water should be boiling or not when I pour it in. I've tried almond milk but miss the fat of the real milk.

It depends how you're using the French press.

If you're using it to brew hot coffee...add the coffee, followed by boiling or nearly-boiling water (coffee brews best at 190-205°F but boiling water will work fine for most people.) and stir before placing the top on. Plunge the plunger after 4 minutes and serve while stil piping-hot.

If you're using it to brew cold-brewed coffee...add the coffee, followed by cold water and stir before placing the top on. Let stand for 12-20 hours on the counter-top out of direct sunlight, unless you live someplace terribly warm like AZ or GA. (in which case, put it in the fridge) Plunge the plunger and serve over ice...or heat it over the stove-top if you want it hot, before serving.

Try coconut milk...it has a coconutty flavor that isn't unpleasant in not necessarily desired, but it does have a fattier, richer taste and coconut fat is healthy.
