20th Century Fox have released an extended trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence and its a WHOPPING FIVE MINUTES LONG!

(56,828 posts)Good trailer, but I get the feeling that the movie itself is going to be 2 hours of action scenes tacked onto this trailer. It does seem to give away much of the story.
I'll still see it though it's a fun movie and perfect for IMAX!

(63,208 posts)I saw the original in the theater, and even as a fan of cheesy sci-fi I was put off by its cheesiness.
This one looks vaguely less cheesy, and I'm glad to see that Commander Data is returning!

Captain America: Civil War was good.
Starship Troopers looks like a better "Independence Day" kind of sequel than this, plus they have co-ed showers which reminded me a lot of college...

(12,153 posts)Film snobs should just stfu and go watch a Bergman film or some other plotless "literary" piece while those of us who like far-fetched sci fi movies with lots of action enjoy this one. I'm pretty sure I'll like Independence Day: Resurgence just as I did the original. Sure, it was cheesy and tropey, but so what? It was fun!

(54,003 posts)The trailer gave too much away. I already don't care for the kid doing Will Smith's lines and playing his son. Will Smith can deliver lines than no other human can. The character looks boring. The bearded president sacrificing himself is such a giveaway (I'll bet he doesn't die in that scene, actually). I'll be bored about all the suspense building up to that scene. Same with Jeff Goldblum turning on the 3-D map scene. They gave away the gravity pulling people up into the air gimmick (I'll bet real gravity doesn't work that way--I know cause I've watched lots of Futurama), so there's no suspense there either. Then there'll be the massive battle scene at the end.
The aliens' fighter planes are faster than our fighters, so we'll have to figure something clever out at the last minute, after half the half-introduced fighter pilot characters introduced to be killed off are killed off. There'll be two big scenes like that, first with an alien victory, then with a plucky come-from-behind human victory involving a few too many unplanned sacrifices and improvised maneuvers thatnobodycouldhaveplannedfor. The kid playing Will Smith's son won't be killed off. Which will make me sad.
My advice: no
