(25,152 posts)most people would have severely sick or injured animals euthanized. But if you choose to save them (yes it can be very expensive), vets (and/or doctors) can learn so much more than if the animal had been put down. It's an opportunity that they probably don't often get because the owners choose to euthanize or are even encouraged to do so. It's great that vets get to save these creatures and no doubt learn from it too.
