The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am making vegan smoked salmon. I have done it before but without nori and salt curing.
Just out of curiousity has anyone else ever given this a shot? My last batch was really good on bagels with non dairy cream cheese and red onions. This is a step up so wish me luck! I found a Dutch website that goes all out on this stuff.
Oh and why am I doing that tonight? I watched Salmon Fishing in the Yeman yesterday and that got me looking into farm raised salmon and how gawd awful it is for them as a species and us with all of the poisens in them. Other than that it was a pretty good movie.

(23,535 posts)became vegetarian at age 16 started replacing the salmon with tomatoes (Not too exciting but better than nothing). That was many many years ago. Now I'm vegan.
I hope you can post the recipe or a link.

(36,827 posts)Which is to say neither vegan burgers or vegan smoked salmon actually are what they claim to be, but instead contain vegetable substitutes that mimic the texture of the meat base in the original dish while adding all the other flavors in order to produce an end result that is similar to what it replaces.

(37,999 posts)I'm torn between doing it the long way with the slow roasting and marinating for days or that other quickie way with the nori and the roasting the pre-shaved carrots for a shorter time.
What do you suggest?
JanMichael
(24,885 posts)Shave carefully and they are ready to slice (I used a mandolin). Add the marinade and chill for an hour and it is fine. But letting it sit for two days is AWESOME!
I have had two bagel non dairy cream cheese red onion and caper sandwiches so far and they are great.
