Name traditions or styles which have drastically changed over time.

Weddings: The bride and groom now stay till the end celebrating with friends and family members instead of hurrying off to "consomme" the marriage.

Styles: Wallpaper and popcorn ceilings out.

Styles: Mauve and grey-ancient color combinations. Burnt Orange and Avocado Green experiencing a resurgence.

3. Consommé is a type of clear soup. I see no connection to wedding night sex.

Unless on has a fetish I've never heard of.

11. No I'm up here in Iowa and we have it here in my house.

After my mom and dad took a drop ceiling at my maternal Grandma's house that had been put in back in the early 70s they just put a popcorn ceiling layer on the base, it looked nicer than the drop ceiling did.

16. They're all over the place - just about any house built in the '80s has them.

I'm in MN, and popcorn ceilings are common here in houses of that vintage. The other things that were trends in interior decorating during that rather heinous decade were "gold" (brass) faucets in the bathroom and vast, voluminous draperies.

10. And I wonder how many couples actually consumate their marriages anymore on the wedding night.

If they hadn't taken care of businez before the wedding day already I wonder if couples still have the energy to do it at the end of a long ass day?

He is NOT, however, her first fiancee. Guys tend to sober up before they wake up with Sarah Palin as their mother-in-law.

12. Pantyhose

Who wears them anymore? No one. I haven't seen pantyhose on anyone for ages. For probably a decade or so.

And I'm very, very happy about it, but I never thought that would end.

And I'm old enough to have worn those gawdawefull garters, and then the horrible girdles and then the choke me if I pull them on crooked pantyhose.

Today's teen and young women have no idea how much better they have it.

25. My advertising director wears them

Every freakin' day, the same basic outfit: blazer, knee-length skirt, starched frilly white blouse, pantyhose and three-inch heels.

All her minions dress in t-shirts and jeans.

30. she must be a Boomer

No one who isn't one of the first women to get jobs in a man's world would dress like that.

But at least she allows others to dress more comfortably.

31. She's 37. Not a boomer.

This is how she chooses to present herself to the world. We don't have a dress code in our part of the Corporation - if you want to wear a suit and tie to work (our publisher does) that's fine, if jeans and polos are your speed (like my production manager or the business manager does) that's cool too. Our reporters don't dress up either, and you'd think they would. Go two blocks south to Hospitality and they've got a real strict dress code.

It's just too many choices! Do you wear the crotch on the right or left side of your face? Or is it on the back of your head?

The outhouse behind the church I went to was a 4 seater.

20. Parents house originally had no indoor plumbing.

Had an outhouse where the garden is now. (We make every effort not to think about that too much). Now there's two indoor bathrooms in the house, with the second one getting put in just a couple years ago.

The church my parents belonged to also had an outhouse. When it was closed and bought by a local excavating company the building finally got indoor plumbing. About two years ago they took out the color window panels (they never really had any stained glass there worth keeping) and put in regular windows and put metal siding on the outside so it looks like the large storage shed it is now.

21. Saturday morning cartoons

I remember growing up they used to be a thing, we'd sit and watch cartoons on Saturday mornings.

As I'm getting older the network channels don't carry much in the way of cartoons on Saturday mornings anymore - NBC is going to stop its Saturday morning cartoon block later this year and most of the other network channels don't have that much if anything in the way of cartoons.

Of course now kids can go to the internetz or dedicated cartoon channels. Kids today don't know what they missed out on when we were growing up.

33. Women wearing pants

My grandmother (1904-1992) *never* wore pants. She'd dress up beautifully for church and wore house dresses (remember them?) on weekdays. Not a religious thing, I just think that generation of ladies did not feel comfortable in pants.
My mom (1929-2013) didn't either, she was a teacher and wore a dress or suit w/skirt every day. She finally wore pants (sweats or track suits, never jeans) her last 5 years or so in the retirement community mainly because it was easier with her mobility issues.
I was in the generation that was forced to wear a skirt or dress to (public) school until 8th grade. I would wear a skirt/dress to work once in a while up til about 10 years ago when I just got sick of dealing with pantyhose and heels. Haven't worn a dress since my mother-of-the-bride gown 6 years ago.

35. Wedding announcements in the newspaper used to always contain a photo of the bride only

- they now have a photo of both the bride and groom together - I think this change happened about 20 years ago.
