None of these old cars handle as well as modern vehicles; they have some bad quirks you'll only discover by driving them hard, or worse, when you want them to go one way in an emergency and they go the other. I'm always hyper-aware that they're not as safe in accidents.

That's the one I loved! I thought the wraparound rear window and the huge front window was so revolutionary.

I never had one, but I wanted one.

Drove it for years and passed it down to 2 other brothers. I'm not sure whatever happened to it.

But we got a VW Rabbit instead. Had all kinds of problems with it. Husband didn't listen to me...... as usual.

It was about the cheapest car out there at that time.

3 speed on the floor, and built like a tank. Drove it from San Diego to Florida through a few Arizona dust storms, and it kept plowing through the haze at 50MPH while lesser vehicles pulled off to the side of the road.

Never did understand why people considered it fugly -- The Honda Civic that came out about 10 years later took a lot of the Gremlin's styling cues.

After my siblings had already driving the piss out of it. Still, it was a sturdy car. It was grey with a burgundy interior.

back in 1973. It handled okay when it had a full tank of gas, but wasn't all that balanced with a near-empty tank.
